I agree with the fact that the looks of this tower are quite irrelevent considering its location and because its sits right next to the area that will see the most action in the next decade. But if you're reffering to Bjark Engel's W57 as "potentially terrible", I STRONGLY disgree with that opinion. This is perhaps the best designed highrise residential building ever built in nyc, and it will anchor a stretch of the West Side highway that is quite boring so it will standout and in my opinion, it will end up being a classic building in nyc.
