I hope they put up some sort of deck/walkway along the windows and/or have heritage info and interpretive panels explaining what you're looking at. Like a little mini heritage park; could be awesome.

Also, lots of the boarding was coming off the windows today.

I love that the City is so gung-ho on making this happen and everyone is working together so well that they're able to do all this work before even getting official permission to, and getting all the permits approved. Hope to see more of the comradery between City/CV/Heritage/Developer going forward.

Does anyone know that the city owns 311 Ross (the former Paulin's Building)?

I think this building needs to be declared surplus and sold ASAP.

Not sure if this was noted elsewhere, but it looks like Jose & Markham is down to its last days at its Princess Street storefront. Clearing out all remaining inventory for $50 or less. I'm not sure if they're just going to online only or what, but the end appears to be near for this location.

Sad, as this is the kind of retail the area needs.

From their Facebook page, it looks like the final closing sale has been extended several times. It doesn't mention anything about why they are closing.

J&M announced they were closing months ago, sales been going on forever. They're probably just trying to sell off the inventory, and most of the good stuff/sizes is probably gone. It really sucks, they're shoes were beautiful, well made, reasonably priced, and INSANELY comfortable.

My speculation would be they didn't do as big an online business as anticipated, which is not surprising because their website was pretty bad. Another likely factor is the owners didn't want to be involved in an unfamiliar business with big challenges anymore — it was owned by the former owners of Whiskey Dix, and now La Roca.

^Wow that's awesome, massive space — hope they do well. It's funny because I knew they were closing, and it was clear they didn't have enough tables in that space. But it was a well-run and well executed concept. So hopefully this space allows them to actually make more money.

Pretty much this... a lack of interest and preferred focus to La Roca. With owning Whiskey Dix and having overcome health scares, the guy likes to keep his interest piqued.

Yolo, business edition.

So pulled thiss off Reddit concerning Union SOund Hall.

Quote:
The landlord didn't know it was going to be a full on club, it was assumed it would be a pub or quieter bar. He got sick of the noise and upped the rent to some outrageous number a week before it was due and the owners of Union couldn't pay it so it closed.
Source: I know a lot of industry people.

Perfect time for an exterior refresh. It is looking tired, and the red paint is worn at spots, and the remaining old windows could be replaced.

so they had a month to month lease? bad business decision to not sign a proper lease that outlines the maximum increases amount per month / year.

One of the owners also moved to BC a few years back. He had his condo up for sale, so might not be planning on returning.

Anyone else notice the rectangular glass "room" or something on top of 62M (UFO condo). I'm assuming it's a common room maybe - amazing views, but seems someone out of place to me.
