Here's what the project docs say:
Quote:
The structure is proposed to be constructed as a steel‐frame building, built atop a mat foundation with approximately 60 steel piles. Excavation for the five basement levels and the foundation would extend to approximately 64 feet below street grade, which is necessary in order to be at the same depth as the adjacent train box, and would require removal of approximately 36,000 cubic yards of soil. The steel piles would extend approximately 150 feet below the bottom of the mat foundation to bedrock.

I've been told that TB Tower will require the same extent of digging for the same reason. So it's really no wonder that that alone will take the better half of 12 months (Lumina is about ~4-5? months and counting for a similar sized hole). With 181's footprint, perhaps we can expect a similar timetable of digging/foundation work as 45 Lansing, which took about 2-3 months after they truly commenced and until they erected their crane (~June to ~August).

Could be. I only take pictures and narrate with my limited non-construction background vocabulary; nothing to be taken seriously and as you can see there is vigorous discussion people are having to clarify what's shown in the picture.
