220 Central Park South’s Façade Almost Finished In Midtown Manhattan
Quote:
220 Central Park South is ever so close to becoming the third slender skyscraper to open up in the last few years along Billionaire’s Row. While Central Park Tower has overshadowed its presence across Midtown, that hasn’t taken away from the attraction for this park-bound limestone real estate. For the next few months, construction workers will be toiling tirelessly to reach the seemingly possible year-end completion deadline.
Robert A.M. Stern Architects is responsible for the design. The building is clad with Alabama Silver Shadow limestone, a material which has become part of the architect’s signature look across Manhattan. Since we last looked at the project in March, the progress, visually, is not significant. That doesn’t mean it’s been slowing down though. All of the limestone cladding has been fully installed along the north, west, and southern facades. The current pace of visible construction suggests that priority has been focused on interior work.
The 950-foot tall structure yields 116 new condominiums, with the three-story penthouse at the top going for a record-breaking $200 million. Part of the project includes a 14-story annex right across from Central Park. Known as “The Villas,” it will have thirteen enormous condominiums, with the most expensive duplex, an 8,000 square foot, six-bedroom unit with 2,000 square feet of outdoor space, on the market for $80 million.
