I'm not sure what that post is about, but seriously doubt it was/is a hitching post given the absence of any ring or other means of securing the reins or a tether line.

Off the question: How many people can be seen in the immediate area and beneath the tree along side the street?

This was on ebay quite some time ago. The seller was asking $750.00!

We've seen many of these view on NLA, but perhaps one or two are slightly different.

Central Park (showing the future site of the Biltmore Hotel)

Main Street with the Baker Block in the distance.

I'm not 100% sure which parochial school or hospital this is.

Many years before P.C.H.

Plaza Church (long before the bell tower was remodeled)

If i remember correctly, we've seen this view many times.

I wish the seller had scanned more (there were 65)

Looks to me like there might be a ring on top. Btw the LAPL has this image listed twice, with slight variations in the reproduction. It labels one "1907" and the other "1880s"--surely Spring and 5th was built up with more commercial buildings by 1907....

Yes siree, that's a hitching post. The little ring could be on the top. Occasionally there was a hook on the backside of the post.
Sometimes naughty neighborhood boys would lark around and steal the rings.
