Happy to have been wrong about the new VA clinic, it looks like they are erecting steel I beams for the clinic building.

Trader Joe's is coming to Birmingham at The Summit. Banana Republic is moving to another part of The Summit to make way for Trader Joe's.

I feel like we've hit a brick wall the past several months in terms of projects. And most of the announcements from last year/earlier this year haven't even taken shape. Which makes me wonder what else will fall through.

Doesn't help that I torture myself everyday by looking at the Nashville and Atlanta threads either lol..

Hmm... I see the walkway over University in this, so according to this, this would be on the Mini Park quad... towards University of the Education Building... interesting.

No, this will be located on the parking lot in front of the old Ullman building between 13th and 12th street.

saw this excerpt from the design review committee:

In order to reduce the construction costs of the upcoming Iron City Lofts project (2719 4th Avenue South), a new all-wood construction, three-story plus ground level design was proposed to the committee. The leasing office will engage the corner, which differs from the previous design. The brick façade will include cement board painted panels and bronze storefronts. After much discussion, the suggestion was made for a work session between the committee and the architect to incorporate the needs and concerns of all involved.

Status: Tabled pending a work session.

pretty sure this was originally a 6-story proposal...

also have heard from a pretty reliable source that the Parisian has fallen through... *sigh*

Hmmm, so some of these big projects are backing off the big talk and bluster already and barely any of them have gotten off the ground. That's no good.

this is the project announced a short while ago on that lot adjacent to the piggly wiggly on clairmont (overlooking highland golf course):

First look: Bristol Development's 246-unit Clairmont Avenue apartment project

It's beautiful! Flew in last night. Parking is a nightmare since they have started refurbishing the parking deck.

Same. Flew in last night. Parking was worse than before but not a nightmare, fortunately.

I had to park on the roof on Tuesday. Not a great way to start a trip.

the airport truly is such an improvement. what a great first impression for visitors flying into our city. used to feel like you landed in the 70s/80s.

here's some good news, I think: H2 Real Estate to move office to Brown Marx annex. this isn't the main brown-marx tower, but hopefully it means there will be movement soon since H2 owns it (and has had that damn sign and awning out over the street for years).

also, if any of you have driven by the VA lately, I think you'll agree it will have quite the presence immediately off 280 (even though the design is not that great). they've already framed up the clinic part. the parking garage is obviously taking more time, especially because of all the excavation required.
