Hi all! I've been a lurker here for a long time. I'm originally from NYC (Bronx, Queens, & Manhattan) but have lived in SoCal for over 20 years now. I'm back in NYC for the first time in over 5 years. Last time, the WTC was just the beginnings of the foundation work. In the last few days, my wife and I have been by the site several times connecting from Path to Subway and also went to the Memorial on Friday. We could even see it from my sister's house in Jersey City.

We were very impressed by the site - especially the pools. WTC 1 looks great up close. I do have to say that I'm still not digging updated the glass/design of the base. Looks like some '60s "modern" apartment building. Oh well - everything else looks great. Also checked out 8 Spruce Street (would love to see the insides of those apartments!) and One57. Both are great. Haven't checked out 432 Park (Drake Hotel) yet.

Just so much amazing architecture here!

Here's a few pics I took that I hope folks will enjoy. I'll post of other buildings in their forums.

From my sister's house in Jersey City:

The antenna. Looks cool on its own - just not there...

Base cladding almost done!

Close-ups of base

Few of the better pics I got:

March 18:

Last section of the first comm ring being installed:

One of the weird windows:

Base squaring being finished on the northeast corner:

Podium window holders being installed along the northwest corner:

Another weird window:

View of One WTC from the WFC Winter Garden:

Reflection of One in Four:

Three WTC podium in front of One:

March 19:

March 20:

A couple pictures from the 102nd floor of Empire:

March 23:

If you compare these two to the Mar 18th pics you can see how many windows they added in just 5 days:

Thumbs down Construction Progress

When will they complete the fireproofing on the base?
Also, are they going to leave that weird window just like that; or will it be eventually be replaced after finishing touches are complete?

Eventually, this tower will be complete.

Will they complete the fireproofing?
REALLY?

Wow, it shocks me that some individuals question the construction of this magnificent tower.

You completely re-worded his quote and made it seem like he was doubting the progress...he was asking a simple question

I did not use a block quote.
We all know that this tower will eventually be complete 100%.

Questioning the "weird window" sounds more like an insult and that is how I understood the statement in full.

I will not debate this any further, back on topic please!

I really like the recent photos of the progress, thus far!

The amount of tall buildings in the past few years has really transformed the downtown skyline with One WTC leading the way.

Anyone walking across the Brooklyn Bridge will immediately notice the difference this tower makes as the windows are attached, we are almost there!

Nothing to worry about guys. Before the building is officially turned over, the general contractor will do a walk through with the owners and between the both of them they will come up with what we call a "punch list".This is where any and all known discrepancies will be noted,repaired/rectified and then and only then will the owners receive stewardship of the building as "theirs" once the list is taken care of. Those worrying about windows can rest assured they will be addressed.

I think a lot of the critics of the base design will be surpised once they pop out the fins. It will look really nice and will, in a subtle way, invoke the twin towers. The mast, on the other hand, will matter only to those who closely followed the rebuilding process and know what could have been. I don't think it will look too bad, especially at night. However, it will always be a reminder that we could have done better than what we got.

I was Downtown yesterday for brunch at the W Hotel and took a few pics. Kind of a shitty day out for pics but here are a few out of the norm type shots. I'll post more glam shots later.

FINALLY!!!! They've only needed to fill in the glass from that missing service elevator for like half a year now. lol

So cool that they're just erecting the entire top of the mast at the bottom of the tower to be hoisted up as one.

How Cool that would be to be able to go into the tip seems like it would be enough for about 10pax
