One more thing I didn't mention Leslie Robertson is now the engineer for Four World Trade Center. So even though his Twins were knocked down he is building up again.

It will be capable of the horizontal light shows as well as vertical. It won't simply be a "lighting" as is currently done with the ESB spire. BTW, the original WTC had a horizontal light show as well in the early 90's.

If the perimeter steel were, hypothetically, removed, would the structural element of the core be capable of supporting the building by itself? I thought I read that somewhere, but I don't know if that's true.

First off, unlike the twins, the perimeter structure deals with the wind load while the core takes the vast majority of the gravity load.
This building can witstand the loss of as much as 2 columns on each side, the perimeter structure is designed to transfer the gravity load to alternate columns.

Wow, I hadn't seen that in years. Good find. I'm not sure how long that went on, but I remember being able to see it all the way in Harlem. It's not hard to imagine something like that at the Freedom Tower.

Oh MAN. This really really really makes me wish I was visiting right now. Amazing. I wish I had been able to make it out that way over the holidays... I imagine the multi-colored lights made 1 WTC simply stunning at night. *envious*

So basically the twins' perimeter columns dealt with the bulk of the strength, and 1wtc uses perimeter and core columns for strength?

^^^ Was it really necessary to quote all those pictures when they're originally posted a mere few posts up?

If you checked the video I showed you a page ago the core and the perimeter columns both are responsible for giving the building strength. Half of the weight of a skyscraper comes from the perimeter columns which hold the building up while the other half or the core of the skyscraper keeps the building down. This is how a skyscraper works. But to put the whole thing together floor trusses are used to put the thing together. That is how they are building all skyscrapers these days.
