Houston took a breather early in 2013, then accelerated at the end of the year. Most of the announcements from last summer and fall are only now starting construction in Q1/Q2, so I expect the dollar value has only increased. More to come.

The owner of Uptown Park has signed an agreement with Patrinely Group to build a luxury residential tower with 250 units in the Italianate shopping center at the prominent corner of Post Oak Boulevard and the West Loop.

The project will be the first of many changes planned for the 17-acre property, which was developed 15 years ago as a series of low-slung retail buildings surrounded by surface parking.

Earlier this year, owner AmREIT announced plans to redevelop the site into a much higher density development with housing, hotel rooms and office space valued at around $1.2 billion. The Houston-based real estate company has identified seven potential development sites in Uptown Park and plans to add significantly to the existing 169,000 square feet of retail space.

The agreement is “the beginning of what could be a transformation of our Uptown Park property to one of the finest mixed use communities in Houston,” AmREIT’s chairman and CEO Kerr Taylor said in a news release discussing the company’s first-quarter earnings.

The new building, Crimson at Uptown Park, will be developed on the northwest corner of the property where the stores Baker, Pelucha Decor and Bella Rinova are now.

true but the one in Austin is a floor shorter and a different roof design. id guess the Houston one is around 280'. still, shorter than the 320' guestimate.

as someone else mentioned, it was Culberson who blocked the federal funding, and thus halted the university and uptown rail lines. fortunately uptown is moving ahead with a BRT line, with local TIRZ(?) money, for the time being that can be converted in the future to light rail.
Nice vid of The Woodlands!

That vid blew me away. It hasn't been that long since I drove through there, but I wasn't expecting quite so many mid and highrises.

Has anyone seen the spot lately where the big apartments that were under construction burned completely down? Do you all think that they will rebuild?

If they don't rebuild, they spent a whole lot of money for nothing. But who knows? They might take the insurance settlement and run. Then someone else can put up a building that's not all wood and flammable.

Great selling tool. And it didn't even include the Hackett Tower.

Right? The woodlands has changed quite a bit even since this video 2 years ago.. Along with Hackett tower they didn't show any of the new developments on Lake Woodlands, nor do I believe they included 20 Waterway Square, or w/e that new office highrise is supposed to be on the south side of the canal.

The video didn't show those projects because it's from 2012. Here's the 2014 version that includes Hackett Tower, 10 Waterway Ave and Hughes Landing.

Who else thinks that The Woodlands is become to Houston what Bellevue, WA is to Seattle? The Woodlands has a little ways to go as far as building up its downtown and its population, but I think its getting there. I can't wait until that 20+ story condo/apartment highrise starts construction....if ever. They have been talking about that one for years now.
