Arrow Baton Rouge Development



Mike Wampold announced Tuesday morning that a Marriott Renaissance hotel, the largest in Baton Rouge, will occupy the site of the unfinished Swaggart Ministry dorms he owns on Bluebonnet. Work will start on the 348-room resort in August-September, and it should be completed in a year. The $64 million hotel will include a restaurant operated by Dickie Brennan, along with a 20,000-square-foot conference center and a state-of-the-art fitness center.

Wish it was taller. But solid nonetheless. I foresee many of the top chain luxury hotels like the Marriott brand entering Baton Rouge as the city gets larger.

Well the shell of the building is already built. I am just happy that the empty shell which is an eyesore on Bluebonnet is now put to good use.

Very nice! Congrats to Baton Rouge. That area of town is booming.... where is this in relation to the Perkins Rowe development?

It is about 1/2 mile north of Perkins Rowe along Bluebonnet Blvd towards the Mall of La.
Speaking of growth , the huge Mall is also expanding, check the latest post.

I've always seen that mall as I pass by it on I-10 heading to New Orleans. It looks like pretty good sized mall too. How big is it officially? How many stores are in it and how many levels does the Mall of Louisiana have?

The Mall of La which opened in 1997 has five anchors and 170 specialty stores on two levels in 1.3 million sq. ft. of space.
The "Ring" roads contain another 2 dozen stores and restaurants with 300,000sq ft.
The new 210,000 sq ft outdoor expansion, The Boulevard, will open next spring and will contain 25 stores and restaurants. Already open is the 16 screen Rave Theatre.

great job

thanks for all you've done on updating. I've got two pieces of news.

1. i've heard that BRAC is developing a considerably large project on the site of the old Advocate building.

2. the new Keller project off of 1-12 is slated to have a Saks 5th Ave. which doesn't bode well with me because Saks shouldn't be in the suburbs.

A 150-acre film studio complex in West Baton Rouge Parish would feature eight soundstages, production facilities, a water tank to simulate filming at sea and full orchestra scoring stages among its post-production buildings. The $495 million project is set to open by 2009.

WBR has recently been "discovered" by many searching for new homes. In particular, the Brusly area has seen many new upper middle class developments and new retail to serve them. Many that are employed in the high paying petroleum sector do not wish to cross the bridge into BR but instead have decided stay on the westside.

Amphitheatre and LaSalle Lawn



A lawn amphitheater seating 3,500 will open by mid-2008 in downtown Baton Rouge, replacing the A.Z. Young Building that once housed the state Department of Social Services beside the Pentagon Barracks on Third Street.

PMAC expansion @ LSU



The Pete Maravich Assembly Center is preparing for a new addition to its north side in the form of a new connecting practice facility. This sketch shows the practice facility from a northwestern angle. The two-floor practice facility will have courts and locker rooms to serve the men’s and women’s basketball, volleyball and gymnastics teams.

Construction has started on the new building located in the CBD adjacent to City Plaza at Convention and North 4th Streets. Completion is scheduled for 2009.

Groundbreaking today on new 19th Judicial Courthouse

The New Orleans Division of Walton Construction Company, LLC will break ground on a new Baton Rouge courthouse on Wednesday.

The $89 million courthouse will be built from the ground up, rising 12 stories and totaling 325,000 square feet. Construction is scheduled to be complete by December 2009. The facility will include 26 courtrooms, judges' chambers, jury assembly space for more than 300 people, a dining facility, and administration offices.

The new 19th Judicial Courthouse will be built on the site of the current municipal building parking lot. The building will rise above North Boulevard and will be on direct axis with the State Capitol Building on the opposite (north) end of Fourth Street. The building, as designed by Post Architects, will be an illuminated glass and concrete structure that will create a beacon at the foot of Fourth Street.
