Individually, Vancouver has some really nice buildings, but I agree that overall they're too similar. That's not really Vancouver's fault though. A lot of residential buildings look alike. Miami and Honolulu are other examples. It's one of the reasons I was always dreading Austin getting a lot of residential high rises. I have to say, though, that most of what we've gotten has been better than I expected, and now I actually favor residential buildings to office buildings or hotels. Office buildings can be pretty boring by comparison these days.
And I actually am not crazy about the idea of tons of point towers. My position on them is let them exist where it's necessary to develop skinny because of space constraints or capitol view corridors, but having too many of them just like having too much of anything starts to look strange. It's no less weird than a plateau skyline of 400 footers.
Any predictions of when the tenant finish-out of the low-rise will begin/become noticeable? Granted I can only see the North wall and the Northeast corner so I don't have a particularly complete view
Always appreciate you sharing your perspective, OtherKevin.
Block 23 has been all cleaned up. Sure does look poised for development.
The other day, I was driving by J.W. Marriott going west on 2nd Street when I noticed I could see all the way down to Seaholm. It kind of hit me then that in the not-too-distant future one is going to be able to drive/walk/bike/whatever all the way from the convention center to Seaholm in one straight shot. That's huge!

So I mentioned I had taken a few pictures on the Independent thread and would post them here. Took me longer than I said it would and I apologize.
In a year you won't be able to see any of those buildings in the background. Instead there will be a nice canyon effect down 2nd Street to Seaholm. That's it for pics.

Thanks, OtherKevin! You're my favorite poster here, because of these images you share with us periodically. This area is evolving so fast. I knew Northshore would speed up the taller it got but it's still surprising to me how fast it's speeding up.
