Stark’s project aims to give Cleveland new ‘face’

Here shows the proposed massing. If true, this will impact Cleveland's skyline:

Also fascinating that lakers are still going these days. Not being from the great lakes I once mistakenly figured the history books closed on them but I was wrong.

Any attempts to expand/modernize lake shipping? You'd think that would be a "green" transport mode based on energy use. If Europe can ship so much stuff via barge you'd think the same would go for the great lakes.
The Cleveland-Europe Express began just this year:

Wow! Downtown has already made great improvements, but this would bring it to a whole new level. And I love the fact that it would impact the skyline. We haven't seen many changes to the skyline for a long time. I hope this is true.

^I feel better about the nuCLEus project since they own the property, unlike the canceled Warehouse District proposal. Don't know if I care for the name but if they end up adding some quality buildings in that spot, I can live with it

On the first page, I added nuCLEus, updated other proposed projects and added updated construction photos. I know there's more to add but all in good time.

I like the term nuCLEus, for the reasons stated. I do wonder how tall they intend to make the new high-rises. With almost 15,000 residents living in Downtown, I'd say the sky's the limit.

Wow, I love the "laneways" concept on page 8 of the pdf. I have always admired tight pedestrian alleys with eateries and such in dense cities. That would be amazing.

Hey I think the new designs for the pedestrian bridge spanning from the mall to the rock hall are in.
My personal favorite is the cable-stayed bridge, but take a look for yourselves.

nuCLEus project renderings show 54-story tower in downtown Cleveland

By Michelle Jarboe McFee, The Plain Dealer
on January 08, 2015 at 5:27 PM

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- A residential tower at the nuCLEus project in downtown Cleveland could stand 54 stories - or 647 feet - high, making it the city's fourth-tallest building.

The developers behind the skyline-changing nuCLEus proposal filed their first crop of renderings with the city Thursday. The images show how Stark Enterprises of Cleveland and J-Dek Investments Ltd. of Solon hope to fit apartments, offices, stores, restaurants, hotel rooms, parking garages and - possibly - a few dozen condominiums onto a 3-acre site in the Gateway District.

J-Dek and Stark also confirmed that they've hired NBBJ as the lead architect on the project, which now carries an estimated price tag of $380 million to $400 million. Bialosky + Partners Architects, a local firm, will assist NBBJ designers from Columbus, New York and Shanghai.

"This is an exciting stage in our development process," Bob Stark, president and chief executive officer of Stark Enterprises, said in a written statement. "NBBJ's international reputation and experience will help us create something that is truly iconic for Cleveland."

We should get some people to create the diagrams for these buildings.
I made a request for the Convention Center Hotel but no one responded.
Maybe a post for Cleveland as a city should be made, not just individual buildings.
I don't know. Also, no one spoke about the Cleveland Clinic and CWRU Health Education Center.
It was designed by Norman Foster and looks pretty slick.
The Cleveland Planning Commission also approved the plans and it's set to start construction in the spring.

Any new photos out there of the progress of these projects? I know it's really cold in CLE, but there is so much going on in development! Super excited to see some of these projects develop.

Yeah, it's currently -13F (without the windchill, yikes!) but once the weather improves I'll be out with the camera. The Hilton is still plugging along, as is Flats East Bank II, but nothing yet on nuCLEus or Intesa.

I'm planning to do a lot of updating on the first page this weekend. It's hard for me to get my brain around moving the 9 (Cleveland Trust complex) into the 'Completed' section.

Natural History Museum

In case you missed today's news, the Museum of Natural History announced its soon-to-commence renovation plans.

http://www.cleveland.com/architectur...museum_of.html

I don't want to badmouth the museum, because there are some great people there, but the current displays look almost identical to how they were 25-30 years ago, except for the missing mammoth from the lobby and the T-Rex that has been tipped forward. They'll finally have a chance to properly show what they have. I'm also relieved to see that there will still be room for the live animal habitats.

I would like an update on the Schofield Building (photographs, projected completion date, any news from the past month or two, etc.,.).

The Hilton still seems to be making progress despite it being so cold.

Yep, it's on a "fast track" schedule for completion in time for the RNC in 2016. We should be seeing the crane jump in the next few weeks
