This thread is torture considering the recent April weather that most of us have been experiencing.

Don't get me wrong the waterfront in Vancouver is extremely good looking, but that beach is not as impressive. It seems to have more of a "lake" feel than an "ocean" feel which is not what one would expect for Vancouver. Many beaches on the Great Lakes could be mistaken for beaches on the Atlantic seaboard. Maybe it is just because it is located in a narrow bay.

You would hate to see the beaches around my area of Japan then, much smaller, sheltered, and coarser than the ones around Vancouver for the most part.

Even so, this feels pretty ocean like to me at English Bay...

Like any feature in the world, ocean beaches come in a wide variety of forms. The most impressive beaches though are often located on exposed coasts due to various environmental and weathering factors, hence the west coast of Vancouver Island has the most impressive beaches in BC.

^ Yes this one is very "ocean like" (I agree with what you said though, they come in different shapes and scales even on the ocean front), probably just a matter of angle. When you can see the other shore just a few hundreds meters across the bay the impression is definitely not the same.

Yeah, the angles he was shooting from are looking more across False Creek. The beaches curve / wrap around the downtown / south False Creek area so you get many varying views.

The one above is my personal favorite beach spot in Vancouver because it does have more of the open ocean feel and is fantastic for sunsets.

I noticed Lake Ontario has a tint of light blue this summer. I don’t know if it’s just me but I noticed the water looked more Caribbean-ish than usual in Sandbanks last week. Maybe it is just because the lake was filled with muddy waters last year.

I was at beaches this week on Lake Huron (Grand Bend) and Lake Erie (Port Stanley). Both were beautifully blue in the sunshine. In the case of Grand Bend, the colour closer to shore was an amazing turquoise - it did indeed remind me of the tropics.

Now that you guys mention it, the water on the east side of Georgian Bay around Tiny Township has looked more turquoise than the last couple of years. We're used to seeing that around Tobermory but it's not always the case on the other side of the bay. And if you go as far east as say Honey Harbour, where tonnes of people fish, that usually looks kind of turbid.

Haven't been paying much attention to Lake O this year even though I have been down to Oakville and Burlington waterfronts a few times. From what I can remember, it hasn't been turquoise looking there but still clear regardless.

About 8 years ago I do remember being at Scarboro Bluffs and seeing an interesting contrast in colours. That was in the fall. The cove there looked terrible. But then the following May it was pretty nice.

Though I imagine what you guys are seeing is more vibrant than in these pics:

Depends on the day but it can get quite turquoise.

The Magdalen Islands....or Iles de la Madeleine. An archipelago linked by dunes and sandbars....stretching 80 km in the middle of the Gulf of St. Lawrence. The islands are a part of Quebec but the inhabitants are mostly Acadian (same ancestry as Louisiana’s Cajuns) ......and the culture, food and scenery make for a great trip!

There's some beautiful white sandy beaches where the water temperatures in mid to late August reach well into the 20s.....especially in the lagoons along the dunes and sandbars.

Driving back to Cap-aux-Meules on the Dune connecting with Ile du Havre Aubert.

Growing up, our parents always preferred to take us to Port Elgin or Southampton rather than Sauble Beach. More "family friendly", I guess.

Indeed it is, which is why I always tried to sneak away to Sauble

Beautiful scene. No one would guess that that is a lake.
