Ontario Place closing down

I noticed nothing about Ontario Place shutting down, I thought something would be mentioned about it because that would be great land for a casino or a whole new entertainment area

http://www.thestar.com/news/article/...ture-grows-dim

I have only been to Ontario Place a couple times and found it boring to be honest. If the city or province (or both) did a renovation maybe we could have a new casino complex and maybe a hotel to go with it.

What do you guys on the board think?

The John Tory report was released today: http://www.mtc.gov.on.ca/en/ontariop...eport_2012.pdf

Here's the article from the Star: http://www.thestar.com/news/canada/p...eased-thursday

Nothing too dramatic. Lots of parkland. I'm not too hot on the idea of a residential area at Ontario Place though.

I think a park is the best use of that land. If new condos are restricted to no more than 10 - 15% of the the land (which they recommended in John Tory's report) I'm ok with it. You need some people living down there for the park to get consistent use, rather than relying on people coming in from other areas. They also want to keep the cinesphere and those pod things, so not sure what they'll be used for. Cinesphere could become a theatre and maybe some restaurants in the pods or some kind of nightlife spot like The Docks?

Province Unveils Plans for New Park and Trail at Ontario Place

Quote:
The revitalization is to be undertaken in phases beginning with the replacement of the staff parking lot on the East Island with a new 7.5 acre urban park and waterfront trail to be designed by LANDinc and West 8. Following public consultations held in December, the initial design concept for the proposed park and trail was unveiled earlier this week at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre in the hopes of eliciting further input from the public.

This defintely sounds great! Right before they closed, the rates for using any rides was horrid, like $11 for two to play 9 holes of mini golf. Anyways, this urban parkland Idea sounds like a great way to revitalize that area, which in itself is close to some major places (e.g. BMO Field, exhibition grounds, downtown/lakeshore area)

If there was an "Ontario Place" subway station, Ontario Place would be popular.
Without easy access, it can never be.

^^^

Right you are.

I've visited Toronto in the past decade 4x (2000, 2001, 2003 & 2006) and never visited Ontario Place because it never had easy quick access to and from the site and the Entertainment District where I stayed.
