Toronto has more expats. I highly doubt there's many born-and-raised Vancouverites cheering for the Leafs.

If you're a Canucks fan you're gonna like this... Elias Pettersson and his Växjö Lakers team won the SHL championship today. They swept Skellefteå in the finals (former Flames great Joni Ortio was in net for Skellefteå).

The great thing is, after a record breaking regular season, Pettersson got even better in the play-offs. In the 13 games he played he got 10 goals and 9 assists, and broke another record for U20 players.

The Canucks have never picked 1st overall or won the draft lottery, but this kid is easily the best talent from the 2017 draft and is looking like a franchise player. Maybe even generational talent. He was just unstoppable in the play-offs.

Pettersson is a stud. The first goal he scored in the finals was nasty.

If the Canucks play their cards right they could find themselves out of a rebuild faster than they think. Definitely anticipating you guys making a push to sign jvr this summer.

Wherever JVR ends up he'll likely get the classic free agent contract that team is desperate to unload after a couple years. He is very one dimensional (great scoring goals in tight) and likely starts regressing as soon as he signs. His career year this year, goal wise, had a lot to do with Mitch Marner being a powerplay magician.

Him and bozak can't generate their own offense at 5 v 5 and that's why I'm happy to let them walk. Having a power play specialist like that could be valuable to a growing team like the Canucks, but no doubt whether he goes it will be a gross overpayment.

We need defencemen desperately. Oilers are a good example of how important it is to have a good defence.

I'm probly getting too excited about about Pettersson but man he looks promising. If he can play centre with Boeser on his wing, that's an offensive 1st line that you possibly build a championship around, like we almost did with the Sedins.

Who is the setup man on the PP now for the Canucks?

The Canucks powerplay was actually pretty good when Boeser was in the line-up. We were like 9th best in the league this year.

Pettersson sets up on the right side and is excellent at setting guys up. The thing that sets him apart from Henrik (or Daniel for that matter) is that Pettersson has an excellent wrist shot and he can one time the puck and rip it into the net. Something neither Henrik nor Daniel could do.

With Boeser on the left side and Petterson on the right, teams are gonna have a hard time defending our powerplay. If we could get a true quarter back defenceman (maybe in this draft), our PP would be lethal.

Congratulations Winnipeg!

It sucks that we have to see one of Nashville/Winnipeg go home after next round.

Flames are holding a presser @ 11am MDT.

Widely expected to introduce Bill Peters as head coach.

Eerily similar to 2013. Playing Randy Carlyle hockey getting outplayed and bailed out by the goalie.

Have to step up in a big way back in Boston for game 7.

Ovi & the Caps are through to the next round. I’m in DC currently and the patrons of the hotel bar are most pleased.

Nice first round win by Nashville. We made it harder than it should have been but gotta give credit where credit is due, Mackinnon is the best player in the NHL this season and played like it.

Should be real fun vs Winnipeg.

BTW-He had to get away from the loser that is the Montreal Canadiens organization to finally win a trophy. So happy for him, although not a Stanley Cup, nobody deserves it more than him.
Of course, he was the most used D-man on his team.

The Gagarin Cup is a pretty badass looking trophy.

Toronto's probably going to win game 7.

I would go with Boston. The Leafs are definitely the underdogs. They may have some momentum however, Boston wasn't facing elimination either.

Really? I think this was the best 3rd period protecting the lead I’ve seen from the leafs in weeks. They kept up the pressure and didn’t really give the Bruins time or space to get anything going. They had a few golden opportunities to make it 3-1 before the Plekanec goal that they just couldn’t convert.

They came out strong in the third. The first two periods were: get cycled, half-assed clear, turnover, repeat. It's generally not sustainable to counter two minutes of possession by the opponent with a lucky fast break, that's how I remember the Carlyle years.

I would like Toronto win but they need to get a shot on net! It is not fun to watch.
