A couple weeks ago my gf and I did a 3 week roadttrip in the western desert states of the US - visiting a number of national parks, state parks and other nature reserves..

We both love hiking as well as hot dry deserts and open roads, so it's pretty much paradise for us..

Here's a few photos from the trip ( a lot more to come later ) now that I got my new issues with Flickr fixed ( man that site has gone downhill this last year :| )..

Monument Valley - Arizona/Utah - USA

Grand Canyon - Arizona - USA

Grand Prismatic Spring - Yellowstone National Park - Wyoming - USA

Zion National Park - Utah - USA

Bryce Canyon - Utah - USA

Yellowstone National Park - Wyoming - USA

Arches National Park - Utah - USA

I've wondered for a long time what Freki does because his life seems awesome.

You know where I get to go for work? Orlando and Hartford and sometimes Philly

^ nope that's clearly Central Park facing west. Perhaps from Sheep's Meadow or something like that. Similar view from streetview: https://www.google.com/maps/@40.7719...!7i8704!8i4352

I work in law enforcement for the Danish judiciary system ( court security, witness protection, close protection of judges, VIP transportation etc. )..

It's a mostly fun job, but it is also one of the lowest paying jobs in the Kingdom..

My trick to travel is to:
A - don't have kids
B - don't have debt
C - save in advance*

(* I have an account I transfer to monthly and then use a buffer for travels )

^ Denmark must be too safe. Lol.
For the same job, you'd make much more money in the US.
Possibly even in my country, depending on what mission they would put you in charge of.
But then it probably would involve more risks for your health/life.

I think you should eventually make kids, though. You're a good looking guy as seen in your pics. Your kids would be cute if you had some.

Speaking of risks taken...

But I think lava was running very slowly in Hawaii, so it wasn't so unsafe.
Impressive picture, though.

Sorry to distract from the photos, but thanks for this. It's actually more inspiring that you've made this a priority in your life. I do have a kid now under 1 year old, and 4 more years of student loan payments, but after that I'll only have the mortgage and hope to do some journeys like yourself. By then I should also have an EU passport, so who knows, I might stay.

Travelling is culture here in Denmark - it's a small country and we have fair wages, so virtually all go abroad in their vacations..

It's of course made easier here since not only are education free, but you get paid to study - not much but enough to cover dorm room, food and a bit of recreational activities.. ( beer.. I'm talking about beer ) - so student debt is not an issue here - by the time you land a job you should be debtfree..

Housing here in Copenhagen can be insanely expensive - even small ( <100m2 ) apartments start on the other side of $500k but since there's a cultural focus on having room for all people there is however a large fairly cheep non-profit rental system here, so you can live fairly cheap here as long as you are okay with renting - and I'm perfectly okay with renting

Cars can also be expensive here - but minor economic cars are very fairly taxed, so I've always been able to buy my cars new in cash, thus avoiding loans

So I've always managed to stay debt free and as I mentioned in my other post I put money aside monthly into various accounts - one of them being a travel account - as that is probable what is the most important for my gf and I- so there's always money for travelling

And thanks to some pretty fair vacation laws in the Kingdom we do get the time off to go see the world - so we're off as much as we can bascially

Romsdal - Norway

Shanghai - China

Beverly Hills - Los Angeles - California - USA

Palma - Mallorca Island - Spain

This was a few weeks before the major eruption, so the lava was active, but the movement rate was indeed fairly slow, so there is as such not a risk to the slow moving lava..

The risk I can think of is when walking on the fresh crust where the lava is still running underneath - if the crust breaks and you step through down into active flowing lava then it could get bad, but the density of the lava is very high so it's not like you will sink in completely..

The UV heat radiation from the lava did give me a sunburn - but we did spend many hours close to it, so that was my own fault

^ Next time you try it, beware of toxic gas like sulfur dioxide too.
Not good at all for you.

Idk what sometimes kills volcanologists, but it's clearly no safe job to get too close to these things.
They can't help it anyway. They want to see it all.

It would take 8 years of college education (Ph.D.) to be a specialized geologist in my country.
Then it's a pity to die from it.
