And on that note, here are the numbers for the 30 largest CSAs:

New York-Newark, NY-NJ-CT-PA CSA: 23,723,696
Los Angeles-Long Beach, CA CSA: 18,679,763
Chicago-Naperville, IL-IN-WI CSA: 9,923,358
Washington-Baltimore-Arlington, DC-MD-VA-WV-PA CSA: 9,625,360
San Jose-San Francisco-Oakland, CA CSA: 8,713,914
Boston-Worcester-Providence, MA-RI-NH-CT CSA: 8,152,573
Dallas-Fort Worth, TX-OK CSA: 7,504,362
Philadelphia-Reading-Camden, PA-NJ-DE-MD CSA: 7,183,479
Houston-The Woodlands, TX CSA: 6,855,069
Miami-Fort Lauderdale-Port St. Lucie, FL CSA: 6,654,565
Atlanta--Athens-Clarke County--Sandy Springs, GA CSA: 6,365,108
Detroit-Warren-Ann Arbor, MI CSA: 5,319,913
Seattle-Tacoma, WA CSA: 4,602,591
Minneapolis-St. Paul, MN-WI CSA: 3,866,768
Cleveland-Akron-Canton, OH CSA: 3,493,596
Denver-Aurora, CO CSA: 3,418,876
Orlando-Deltona-Daytona Beach, FL CSA: 3,129,308
Portland-Vancouver-Salem, OR-WA CSA: 3,110,906
St. Louis-St. Charles-Farmington, MO-IL CSA: 2,916,447
Pittsburgh-New Castle-Weirton, PA-OH-WV CSA : 2,648,605
Charlotte-Concord, NC-SC CSA: 2,583,956
Sacramento-Roseville, CA CSA: 2,544,026
Salt Lake City-Provo-Orem, UT CSA: 2,467,709
Kansas City-Overland Park-Kansas City, MO-KS CSA: 2,428,362
Columbus-Marion-Zanesville, OH CSA: 2,424,831
Indianapolis-Carmel-Muncie, IN CSA: 2,372,530
Las Vegas-Henderson, NV-AZ CSA: 2,362,015
Cincinnati-Wilmington-Maysville, OH-KY-IN CSA: 2,216,735
Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill, NC CSA: 2,117,103
Milwaukee-Racine-Waukesha, WI CSA: 2,046,692

and here are the rest (171 CSAs in total):

http://factfinder.census.gov/faces/t...xhtml?src=bkmk

Of course that brings up yet another annoying census rule in regards to San Francisco: the fact that San Jose is listed first, because it has more people within arbitrary city-limits...despite the fact that SJ is in no way the primary city of the (San Francisco) Bay Area, and has an MSA that's less than half as populous as SF's MSA. Seeing as a CSA is a collection of interconnected MSAs, Maybe it would make more sense for the census to list cities in a CSA by the most populous MSA, rather than the most populous municipality.

How is Ventura county not part of the LA MSA? It's right next to the city limits.

Only for LA they would do this nonsense.

Much of the (populated) inland empire is connected to LA's street grid. It makes no sense.

From worldometers. Its a tad bit higher than the Census clock which is 324,128,499 as of this moment.

April 10th: 323,591,756

Today: 324,323,691

1 China 1,382,323,332................. 0.46 %
2 India 1,326,801,576.......... 1.2 %
3 U.S. 324,118,787............. 0.73 %
4 Indonesia 260,581,100.....1.17 %
5 Brazil 209,567,920............. 0.83 %
6 Pakistan 192,826,502....... 2.07 %
7 Nigeria 186,987,563...... 2.63 %

Interesting to see the U.S. growing faster than China, but India is out of control. And its not bashing on India, but jesus, most of the population lives in garbage. This is not going to help the country with all of these new people. It would be better to have lower population growth, but with citizens that have a nice gdp per household. Therefore increasing the probability for a good life and to have the resources for future kin to make it.

Source is the same one in post #1602.
Was checking the population clock. Compare to May of last year. So May 9, 2016 vs June 18, 2017.

1. China 1,379,302,771
2. India 1,281,935,911
3. United States 326,625,791
4. Indonesia 260,580,739
5. Brazil 207,353,391
6. Pakistan 204,924,861
7. Nigeria 190,632,261
8. Bangladesh 157,826,578
9. Russia 142,257,519
10. Japan 126,451,398

US Census.GOV

China is seeing a decline. U.S. gained 2 million or so. Now that I look at it, I think India was at 1,226,801,576 in 2016. Type on my part. So "2" not "3". India is growing like crazy. They need to stop that.

according to that site, mexico is currently at no. 11 with 124,574,795 people.

with less than 2 million people now separating them, i would have to imagine that it won't be too long before mexico overtakes japan for the no. 10 spot.

Pakistan will probably overtake Brazil. Brazil, which is also the 5th largest country in the world, have been holding the 5th place since the end of USSR back in 1991.

whats amazing there is how the usa is such a distant 3rd, along with the rest of the countries in the world to china and india -- by a billion souls. yikes.

both china and the usa have about the same land mass, around 3 1/2M sq mi, but india only has about a third of that acreage. so india really packs'em in like sardines.

or not only that, but imagine the usa like china with a billion more people. or for an india comparison, just in the western states for example. i can't even.

I can remember it wasn't that long ago when China reached 1 billion. They have now surpassed that by more than the entire population of the US.

Yep, India is is kind of astounding like that. Another eye-popping one is Bangladesh.

It's the densest large nation on the planet. It's roughly 3x denser than India, and India itself is very dense for a large nation.

Bangladesh has roughly the same land area as the state of Michigan, but is has ~159M people!

For comparison, Michigan has about 10m people. Imagine if half of the US's population was all crammed into Michigan. Crazy.

And it will be more extreme when half of Bangladesh disappears.

China is about to begin the long term process of losing a couple hundred million as their population ages. China's working age demographic is already shrinking and their 65+ pop. will be greater than all of Japan and Egypt combined by 2030.

The big slowdown is coming and it will ripple around the world. Whether China allows foreign migration (and whether foreigners would ever want to migrate there in mass) will be interesting. If allowed, China will deal with events that already plague Europe.

I don't know...East Asian countries in general seem to be extremely hesitant of allowing foreign immigration. Japan pretty much said they will take robots over foreign migrants.

I think they see the stuff happening in Europe and they're just like "Hell no. Not Worth it".

I personally have a very high opinion of Japanese culture(though it can be a little too conservative for my liking) and I really wouldn't want that diluted from immigration. The world will get another chance to see just how efficient their society is during the 2020 Games.

There is no place in the world that could provide enough people to avoid China's population to plunge.

They will decline fast and there's nothing to do about it.

India really needs a population decline. With China, its making strides. At least there is a better opportunity for people there. Still nothing compared to the West... but, its better than India.

Whats going on in India is terrible. The job market in the U.S. can be competitive, but nothing compared to India. Can't even imagine the applications for a decent job in a major city like Delhi or Calcutta. Lots of poverty out there and the infrastructure and job market can't keep up with the population growth. All this high population growth is breeding even more poverty. More strain on the system.

Does this look normal?

If it ever got this bad in the U.S., things might need to be reevaluated.
