Yes, I'd be interested to know. My suspicion about these things, though, is that it is based on city politics (and racial balance) more than effectiveness and logic. I.e., they had to build the lines going east so that the new transit system wasn't just serving white, wealthy areas (even though that's where ridership would be and where the system could be profitably run).
