Unlike most high rise buildings that cater to either corporations or residents, buildings in Niagara Falls target people in search of entertainment. Their buildings were never going to be conservative, apologetic, or conventional. The designs were always going to be over the top, garish, in your face, etc.

They'd be making a huge mistake trying to mimic an office building or typical Canadian apartment block.

Agreed, Niagara Falls will become one of my top 8 favourite Canadian skylines once all those highrises are completed!

It's not supposed to look like a five star city, it's catering to the tons of tourists that pour into Niagara Falls.

False dichotomies... Taller Better is that you? Plenty of buildings avoid these attributes without looking horrific

The last few posts should go to the "defend your city" thread

Not me, I love the ones on the left of the picture. I seriously would like to see them added to the Gardiner canyon in Toronto.

I don't think they look tacky at all. However, you're right re the Skylon tower. It's the one building in Canada that's actually worse than the KFC bucket on a stick they have in Calgary.

They're not, but people tend to have it cemented in their heads that buildings have to look a certain way. When they don't, they get their knickers in a knot.

No, the buildings look like a pile of junk. (to me)
It's obvious that there is very little city planning in Niagara.

What's wrong with Casino Niagara and the Skylon? Both are pretty solid designs. IMO you crossed out the wrong buildings except for that proposal on the right, I'll agree with you there.

^I think it looks to jumbled. Skylon is a failed Cn tower, It's just awful looking.
The new proposal to the left looks nice though.

The Skylon was built 10 years before the CN Tower, though.

Maybe it's more a failed space needle, or tower of the americas, or stratosphere, or calgary tower, or any of the other towers that are built to roughly the same design.
