Groat road bridge reconstruction. They kept the piers but replaced every thing else. The new steel girders for the east side are just about to go in.

1. Are they widening it?
2. Is Groat closed during construction or 1/2 closed, or etc.?
3. If fully closed, how's the traffic working out?

1. No, like-for-like replacement - 4 lanes before (2 NB and 2 SB) and 4 lanes after.

2. Groat Road is still open, but at half capacity (1 lane in each direction). They closed the lanes on one side of the bridge during replacement and switched to the other side after work was completed.

3. Traffic is slower at rush hour, but no huge differences outside of that. Pedestrian and cyclist access isn't great, as the 'multi-use path' is severely constricted on the bridge during construction. The previous 2 sidewalks on either side of the bridge are now down to just one, which itself has been narrowed because of construction.

Thanks. It seems typical that reduced capacity during construction traffic management gets absorbed within the larger network without too much difficulty. Adaptation, at least temporarily, seems to work quite well - certainly here in the Lower Mainland. When they redid the north approaches to the Queensborough bridge it was remarkable how they kept things going. Equally so for the HWY 1 makeover, GM Bridge, and the current reworking of HWY 1 north of the Ironworkers. We will see with the new Patullo and George Massy crossings.

The footings of the new Inglewood Bridge are nearly complete.

The design is simple, but pretty decent for such a short span. For reference, this is an extremely high traffic spot for all modes of motorized and active transportation and recreation, so the renders are accurate.

The original 111-year-old bridge structural steel is being preserved and incorporated into a future park redevelopment, so that’s pretty awesome.

Sorry I didn't get back to you on this. (in McMurray). As was mentioned the bridge is still open. I do believe the pedestrian lane will be slightly wider to accommodated pedestrians and cyclists. And driving on the new section feels wider. The current sidewalk -all cyclist must walk their bikes.

The bulk of work was cutting and removing the concrete girders. Replacing the bridge abutments as well. (last year they dropped a large section into the river when the crane failed. They retrieved it this winter).

West side is now open and east side has been completely removed.

The piers were left in place. apparently they are still in great shape. After this is complete the bridge will be good for 50 years.

And our new LRT bridge crossing is now connected on both banks.

Some Ottawa transit bridges. Nowhere near as impressive as Vancouver, Edmonton and Montreal.

Trillium Line Bridge over the Rideau River at Carleton University. Little to no work will be done on it as part of Stage 2. Single track now and for the foreseeable future. I believe a new pedestrian/cycling bridge is to be built next to it by 2022.

Le Pont Noir, Gatineau running over the Gatineau River. It doubles as a freight train and bus bridge. Single track/lane, with a pedestrian/cycling siding added as part of the RapiBus nearly a decade ago.

Hurdman Bridge of the Confederation Line, over the Rideau River. Converted from a Transitway bridge to a rail bridge.

The Prince of Wales Bridge. Built in 1880 and bought by the City of Ottawa in the early 2000s, it has been discussed as a possible transit bridge for two decades now. It may be converted to a pedestrian/cycling bridge while we figure out the transit aspect.

Freight traffic at midnight just like what's happening on parts of Trillium Line, I imagine?

Never heard back from Jonovision to hear if he 'infiltrated' the bridge fabricator in Dartmouth, so no other pics yet. Below is the Portands first little fella likely off to the paint shop

The multi-use bridge is the first of up to seven eventually planned for the Lower Don Lands Redevelopment (the Don River mouth diversion and the other phases of the $1.25 billion Port Lands Flood Protection Project are well-underway). The steel was bent in the Netherlands and shipped in pieces to Cherubini Group in Dartmouth, who assembled the puzzle. This guy will be floated down the St. Lawrence into Toronto harbour in late October or early November.

Off to the paint shop?

Couldn't say. I grew up nearby, and I feel like at the time (before the RapiBus), a few trains a day would go by.

This reminds me of the instance when MolsonsExport was like, “Why not merge cars with trains?!” (We were talking about bike merges in London, ON.)

I’m surprised that Transport Canada is okay with this, since heavy rail’s very different from light rail.
