The towers themselves look pretty sexy and I'm sure they will pack a punch at night, but that podium....man! Such a massive eyesore. And what's up with that unnecessarily obese driveway?

Why do you say that? The second tower of phase one is 38 stories tall. The third and fourth towers absolutely look about 50 and 60 stories, respectively.

Yeah the Podium is massive....it may be the largest in the city when its done but I think that close to the freeway... I honestly don't mind it. I think its probably the only option they had for that reason. but on a different note most of the renderings show LED billboards on the side that's facing the freeway which may make driving into downtown interesting. But the driveway... I may have to agree with you on that one. it is pretty big.... but seeing how it will be serving the residential tower and the hotel.. it probably was another "must haves" in order to serve both buildings since im almost certain that the residential component and hotel will both do very well when completed. String some LED lights over it and it may be a pretty cool experience .

Here's a good, clear shot of the project model (phase one). The renderings released thus far don't do a good job at illustrating the design variations of the four towers' facades.

Fencing is up, signs are up and groundbreaking is imminent for phase 1 (19 and 38 story hotel and residential towers)

Phase two revealed (approximately 50 and 60 story towers, 1.4 million sq ft total) ...

Looks amazing. This will fill one of the largest gaps in downtown L.A. and will be great for the area. Now if Fig Central could get going too.

Im hoping that as soon as the finals are over (tonight hopefully, GO KINGS GO) that they will announce the groundbreaking.

For better or worse, the second rendering is of the design that Greenland opted against.

http://www.latimes.com/business/real...612-story.html

Interesting article about Downtown's limited condo supply, with some good news as well:

Quote:
The growing demand has lured at least one major developer. Greenland USA plans to start construction next week on a 308-unit condo tower near Staples Center, one piece of its massive Metropolis project. But the tower isn't scheduled to open until July 2016 at the earliest, according to the company's chief executive, Ifei Chang.

^ By far the most elegant designs yet, in my opinion. The second proposal isn't bad, but that blank wall podium facing Francisco Street is unforgivable.

I don't find these towers particularly attractive. What I enjoy most about this proposal are the little retail boxes fronting Francisco Street and the somewhat more interesting landscaped surface/terrain behind them.
