50 meters isn't too bad for that area. Will poke right above City Hall.

East Village Hilton. The pile driver is actually sitting on the other side of the LRT tracks but I can't see it being used for anything on that side......at least for some time.

There is some activity on the and equipment on the Hilton side of the tracks. I'm not sure if this is in relation to the hotel construction or not.

That pile driver would likely be for the LRT portal encapsulation, that will allow the library to start construction next year. They can't have an active construction site on top of unprotected Public transit vehicles.

The north half of the parking lot is closed off, so that encapsulation work is going to be starting right away.

That makes sense. Thanks for the update!

Yep - and from CMLC:

Hilton Hotel

A Hilton Hotel of more than 300 rooms is planned for the corner of 7th Avenue and 4th Street S.E. The 14-storey building will be on the same block as the historic St. Louis Hotel.

“We’re about a week away from them starting to mobilize on site. And then you’ll see construction start. Their construction will go extremely fast. I think you’ll be looking at 16 months,” said Brown.

Wow, that is awesome news. One tower starting just as two others are proposed on the very same block! Exciting times

The parking lot is completely cleared as of now. Lots of equipment around but hard to tell whether it is there for the LRT tunnel work or the hotel...

Possibly both!

On another note, I really like how much space this building is going to take up. The greatest part is, nothing had to be demolished for it, pure parking lot development! That sorta makes up for the subpar design.

Remember that it’s going to be very close to two quite bold buildings, the library and NMC, and the St. Louis will be right there as well. I think it’s ok to have something nice but a bit more conservative in that spot.

Maybe I'm just being hopeful, but given that they have said in the media that they would be starting construction around this time, I'm guessing that it has to be for the Hotel.

Well, knowing how much parking goes for in this town, they would not have torn up the parking lot unless they were planning to start construction imminently. I am optimistic.
