Two pics of Yates on Yates by MarkoJ at vibrantvictoria.ca:

This first pic must be from the roof of Escher? Almost looks too high to be from there:

This second pic must be from the Jukebox?

Would be great if the rooftop is a public lookout and cafe/lounge/bar.

^That's about as likely as the Crystal Pool getting rebuilt this year

When I moved downtown in 1994 these two blocks didn't have one mid-rise

They now have eight mid-rises and high-rises totalling 106 stories

Thanks for the pictures. Victoria is changing so quickly and for the better. Harris Green will be so much different in 10 years.

I wonder what condo that first photo was taken from? Such a beautiful view.

When driving down Douglas Street by the Red Lion you can see The Yates on Yates sticking up in the skyline already. It will look good when completed.

It won't look like a prominent commercial gateway building. The new section will look like a residential building, complete with full-sized residential balconies projecting out onto the main commercial corners and streets. It will also come with a Vancouver planning department-style setback for the top two floors (or what I call an "architecturally receding hairline").

Maybe (finally) a new home for the Maritime museum?

Langford planning $87M arts centre that includes Maritime Museum
T-C February 25, 2020

https://www.timescolonist.com/news/l...eum-1.24083326

Quote:
The Maritime Museum of B.C. might finally have found a permanent home — today, it’s expected to sign a memorandum of understanding with the City of Langford to partner in the construction of an $87-million performing arts centre and museum, to be built across from Costco.

The Maritime Museum, which has been leasing a small, temporary space in downtown Victoria since it was forced to leave its home in Bastion Square in 2015, hopes to build an 80,000-square-foot space on McCallum Road in Langford...

...The museum would be part of a complex that includes a 1,200-seat performing arts theatre, conference centre and office tower.
Langford Mayor Stew Young said the municipality will provide the land and services and pay for the $30-million theatre through fundraising and amenity fees charged to developers.

The museum would be responsible for financing the $57-million exhibit space.

I'll take a setback on the topmost floors over crude-decapitation-by-Victorian-height-restriction-laser any day of the week. It will actually be half-decently consistent with what user to occupy the site. The customs house should be a great partner for the Belmont Building (which was originally supposed to be a hotel, as we all know).

I might be being too optimistic. The model suggests another flat-top look, despite the slight setback on the upper levels. But there would seem to be enough balconies and terraces to mitigate the effect somewhat, giving the whole thing a stepped appearance. (Fingers crossed that those balconies and terraces will have furniture and plants and (hopefully) people on them.)

It took me a minute to figure out the picture was taken from one of the upper floors of the Falls, it's just too bad they didn't go outside to take the pic

That's from Chateau Victoria. I linked to the source (TripAdvisor.com).

I had never heard of this DailyDrivenExotics YouTube channel. Some good Victoria videos:

This first vid is worth watching right to the end.

Nice drone shots at the start of this video.

Looking at a house for sale in Oak Bay.

Yeah, I guess that shot would have been slightly further west if it were taken from the Falls rather than Chateau Vic but I really thought I nailed it. Trip Advisor also has a bunch of nice panorama shots from the Chateau Vic at their site

Did anyone else notice that they painted Sutton Place West white about a year ago so when I saw that I figured they were updating the look of the buildings like View Towers did years ago but they haven't painted the other one white, it's just been left beige. Weird

I haven't seen any backlash to Hudson Place One but I know that ~50 years ago when View Towers, Orchard House and Roberts House were built there was an outcry which is why we've all been saddled with height limits ever since

Has there been any?
