I come to Paris a few times a year, and I am extremely enthusiastic about all that they are doing at La Defense. I wish we could skip ten years to see what the results of all those rising towers will be.

The renderings looks incredible.

^ If things happen as expected, the most dramatic changes currently planned should be done by 2016. However the economic context remains quite uncertain, we've got 3 projects dead from financial difficulties. Most including the couple of biggest survived though. So hopefully, we'll see some big stuff done within the 5 next years. For now, we're enjoying every single little construction launched

I'm editing that post because after thinking about it, I feel like I've been wrong to ironize about the fact that this cladding was the 1st ever we got from China over here. It was nothing mean of me but could just be badly misunderstood when as far as I'm concerned, I actually like the globalization effect here in Paris, it's totally helpful to us Frenchies which seemed obvious enough to me. Anyway...

The broken panel was already set up on post #23. It was alright then, a clumsy move must have broken it.

I like light blue but the light grey sticks jointing the panels are what's frustrating to me. I see many contemporary claddings of which panel joints are thiner and don't appear in relief so I'm wondering why those had to be this way. Maybe just the designers' choice. I find that it looks like some 1970's fashion so to speak. That's it.

Thanks to reporter morgandoug as usual.

The spandrel glass is a bit disappointing, but the rest of the cladding looks nice. I'm not a big fan of the frosted spandrel glass. I think it looks far sexier when it's clear, and shows the structure behind it. And more subtle mullions that are flush with the glass would have been better than what's there. Still, this is only one side of the cladding. In the renders, the cladding looks like it has a slightly different treatment on the side with the staggering diagonal planes.

^ This is it, precisely. You said in your English what I couldn't express in mine but had on my mind in my language. Thanks for your comment.

I like the concrete columns.
Too bad they are concealed by the cladding.

Amazing structure, if only the cladding was sleeker

Dramatic. I like the cladding when it looks grey and not blue

Thanks for the great image updates! I used to work in the Balzac building right behind this one before my return to the US, so I got a good look at the construction on a daily basis.

The building has great structure, my only worry is that La Defense will become overwhelmed with buildings of similar cladding color.

Milo's update on French speaking pss-archi.eu, 5 days ago:

The same day, Maza brought a couple of details still to pss-archi.

The cladding dirtied by the work:

And, they broke a second panel! lol

Hell, that cladding looks embarrassing for now...

The core looks a bit taller than the grey tower (Europe) right beside it by now, that's over 300 feet.

Today.

Still no answer to the darker spandrel panel down there. As we saw earlier, they'll have to replace at least a couple of them, plus one of those grey strips that looks a bit broken down, too.

BTW, they eventually decided to use a crane anti-collision system...

Bah, we'll get used to it. Thanks to bnmaddict.

This thing must be for the sort of lowrise outgrowth of the lobby.

I definitely think that clear spandrel glass would have looked a LOT better than the greyish spandrel glass we have now, but this one is growing on me, especially when it reflects a blue sky with white clouds. I have a feeling the finished product will look quite nice.

^I'm with you. In the first shots with just a few panels, I thought they looked really dated already. But now that more of them are on and you see the reflecting effect, I think it's looking fantastic.

Cool pictures to make us appreciate the increasing density.

Good idea to spare Europe from any recladding, it's one of the few 60s buildings of which the facades look pretty good IMO. The density around enhances its effect in that glass mess, now I like it better than I ever did.

Chartis' facade refreshment will be welcome on the other hand. I find it looks too old-fashioned.

Facades from left to right: Europlaza, Carpe Diem U/C, Europe and Chartis.

I can't tell what those white columns are made of, they're clearly maintained anyway. They'll change the glass components only.
Looking forward to that renovation...

I actually like the current cladding of Chartis. And if you look closely at the rendering, it looks like they're just going to clad over the cladding that's there.
