Spring Temple Buddha (World's Tallest Statue) | Henan, China | 502 FT / 153 M

Also will need to be added to the database when that's re-enabled.

Isn't this kind of contradictory to what he taught?

Would Buddha have approved of people building giant gold statues of him?

Most of that info isn't available, will have to fill out what's there, but at least this one actually exists.

Depends on what sect of Buddhism you ask. If you ask the Mayahana Buddhists from Tibet, they're going to say that building giant golden Buddhas is an excellent tradition because the Buddha would be pleased to see such statues being used to enlighten people. However, if you asked a Buddhist from a more conservative sect like Theravada, they would say that one should not concentrate on material objects like a golden statue and that one must meditate internally on their own.
