Best state flags:

Maryland
New Mexico
South Carolina

Worst state flag:

Texas

There's nothing cool, unique, nor easily identifiable about the Texas state flag. I have never gotten what's even remotely interesting about the design... because there is nothing remotely interesting about the design.

Colors of the United States, single star -- the LONE STAR... wowww, greeeaaat.

I'm sure it's the most flown flag within a state. But that doesn't make it a good flag. It's just because Texas just wants to feel unique, independent, exceptional... the lone star... the whole "biggest and best" Texas thing.

They basically just took the French flag and flipped it on its side, then weren't quite as creative as Cuba or Puerto Rico in throwing a star on it, and said voila!... Lone Star! Fuck the Texas flag, it sucks. There, I said it, fuck it.

Houston's is boring and outdated. A locomotive? We should replace it with the moon or something else spacey. And no words.

San Francisco's is just horrible.

Pocatello, Idaho, recently updated its flag for some weird reason.

The Los Angeles city flag is pretty lame. It's just the city seal on a weird background:

But the seal might be one of the most iconic and recognizable city seals in the world, mostly because it appears on the door of every LAPD squad car. The four panels on the shield represent the four sovereign flags that flew over the city:

Iconic:

I love how the old pocatello flag has both the copyright and trademark logos directly on the flag, LOL!

What the hell was the pocatello chamber of commerce smoking to be under the impression that any entity in the entire freaking universe would ever want to steal that god-awful shit.

I never knew what LA’s flag looked like. Bizarre. Seal doesn’t seem to go with the background at all.

Kind of an African vibe to it.

Reminds me of 1990s mountain bike graphics... or maybe a trail mix label from the same era.

I always liked Toronto’s. A bit untraditional but it works. Could maybe do without the maple leaf though.

It’s designed to invoke City Hall:

Are you serious? You are completely missing the point of that flag.

When Texas was its own country, it was known that almost everybody in that country was from the United States. So they designed a flag commemorating the United States and designing a flag that was like the US flag but with one “lone star” to represent that the Republic of Texas was a “lone star state.” They were commemorating the US flag and recognizing the US was where they were from. It also wasn’t the only way they commemorated the US. They did it in their constitution and also named their first capital after their general Sam Houston, just as the US capital was named after their general George Washington.

My whole post was a ridiculous joke. Aside from not being a unique flag, I don’t really feel that way. Seriously though, thanks for the flag history.
