When you ask your mates to vote for you it really defeats the purpose of the competition. My photo isn't up to much but there are 4 or 5 photos that genuinely deserve to win . I voted for #4

Wow - what a field - easily half a dozen here that I could happily vote for - went for 12 in the end - had no idea it was a reflection at first.

Photo 5 for me. I love it. And, if I had another point to give, Photo 17.

(Neither are mine, BTW).

Just an idea for next time, but maybe when you get over a certain amount of entries (lets go with 12), break the contest into smaller ones, and let the top 4 vote getters duke it out in a final.

Because really, there's too many good ones here.

Another possibility that has worked well for other contests I've participated in: Each person gets three votes to assign to 3 different images. The image with the most votes wins. This helps the best images rise to the top and there is a smaller chance against biased voting since you have to cast three votes in order to cast one. Downside is voting is not anonymous and requires a mod to make sure everyone is sticking to the rules. This also doesn't work if there are only a few images. See example here:

http://www.flickr.com/groups/beautif...7632067059211/

There are some great shots here. However, some aren't B&W.

I will do that for the next contest, brickell. You're right, there are too many entries and too many good ones to choose from. Nice problem to have, but it's still a problem. Thanks for the suggestion!

One of them is not B&W that I'm aware of, but it's close enough I kept it in anyhow. Next contest I'll see if I can get set up with three possible votes per voter. I think it makes a lot of sense.

Of those ideas, I like the three votes per person idea best. And if that's implemented, would we even need to separate them into separate polls? Of course if there are only have a dozen entries or so neither are necessary. The turnout the last couple rounds has been great!

The main thing with multiple votes is to make sure people realize they are allowed three, so it should be mentioned in the title or bolded at the top of the post or something.

I love the three votes suggestion as well, especially if it's a mandatory three.

I'm less thrilled about breaking it up into separate polls. 20 or so photos is really not that many. And, I think, with three votes people will already feel far more empowered to really elevate their favourites.

I think there is some confusion about B&W and monochrome. More than one entry has a hue.

Also, wasn't the original contest only supposed to have one building, not multiple?

If you don't feel like it fits the subject then don't vote for it.

Well, the voters have spoken and it's quite obvious that Photo #9, "Dark Side of The Bow" submitted by Witty Nickname. Congratulations to Witty Nickname, and as the "prize" for winning Photo Contest #5, it's now his turn to choose the topic of the next photo contest! In addition, I would also like to use this opportunity to discuss any changes that should be made, if any, to the photo contests. I have had several forumers mention that there were too many entries for this contest and that perhaps it would be useful to either cap the entries at 12 (for example), and/or allow people to vote for their three favorite entries instead of just voting for one. Any suggestions should definitely be put out here, and I promise to listen and try to make adjustments to ensure the success of future photo contests!

I will list all of the entries and who submitted them tomorrow.
