Something like Yagan Square would be cool on the waterfront in front of Waterfront station. Build up over the tracks and connect it to Granville Square, the station, maybe even Canada Place. Fill it with restaurants and retail right on the waterfront and have a nice seabus station integrated.

Yagan square opened just about a year ago.

This was built over the train tracks and there was an above ground bus loop which they built a new one that is now underground. This square helps connect the trins and the busses like a transit square.

I can't find a proper before but this shows how it was, the bridge was to get over where the trains are

this guy gives a good tour of it

At the very least, that'd be a whole lot more practical than the MLB stadium.

Diller Scofidio + Renfro for the London Center for Music

Something like DS+R's design for a concert hall in London is what I hope to see in Vancouver one day.

(Source: Architectural Digest)

Mimics a peak, uses wood and glass, twists a bit like a few other new towers in the city... what could be more suitable for Vancouver? It would be a great way to pierce the sky without offending a view! Give it a subtle and unique lighting feature at the top and it would give the city an instant landmark!

China's 'horizontal skyscraper' attraction nears completion

Dubbed an engineering marvel, the highly anticipated Raffles City Chongqing project in China is nearly complete.

Devised by world-renowned architect Moshe Safdie, it measures a staggering 1.12-million-square-meters and consists of a collection of eight towers and a gigantic connecting skybridge, which is being called a "horizontal skyscraper."

Work on the $3.8 billion megastructure began six years ago.

See 23 of the world’s most enchanting libraries - I'd post pictures from it but they're making it difficult...

there are some courtyard spaces and passageways

Nice! I love this laneway/retail concept: kinda similar to the ICE district in Edmonton. Unfortunately here in Vancouver we have jaded folks wary or street lawlessness in the lanes:

Built by a Vancouver based developer, to echo it's project in Vancouver, with a Vancouver based artist doing the lighting scheme.

I'd say this is 'design inspired by Vancouver' to steal from the thread title.

Since it's Telus Sky, I would assume that Telus is funding the maintenance and repair of light show.
That would be harder in a near 100% residential tower like Vancouver House.

Well top 2/3 of the building is resi, so I would assume the residential manager is on the hook for a portion of it as well.

Er, not any more it isn't. "Development application, lodged with the Brisbane City Council in December 2015, was approved in May 2016. As of 2019, approval expires in June 2020, Aria’s commercial manager Michael Zaicek told Commercial Real Estate that they “have no intentions for a residential development in the near future” [source: Wikipedia]
