Drove by Love Park today. Lots of equipment and activity on site, so this is back to business.

It's called modular construction. Basically the same construction techniques and materials normally used on-site (framing, followed by plumbing/electrical rough-in, followed by insulation, followed by drywall and other finishes), but instead done in sections (modules) in a factory, and then installed and interconnected on-site on a conventionally constructed foundation. Works especially well when you have essentially self-contained units such as apartments. And if done right (i.e., interesting design and high-quality exterior finishes installed on-site), it can be indistinguishable from high-quality construction built entirely on-site.

Here are a couple of photos showing the process:

Disgusting. At least give us a fresh modern building. But to demolish and replace with a blatant forgery just adds insult to injury.

Agreed. That whole concept and development plan seems like some fantasy that I would come up with after having a few too many beers.

the best part of the article is that the son and mother both claim to have connections and prior experience but they claim they can't discuss any of it due to "non disclosure agreements". I've not heard of a developer who doesn't tout his or her prior developments.
