I was recently at a friend's loft on Beale street with a view of this site. She was complaining about all the new buildings planned for Freemont street and that "they are going to build another one of those ugly towers." I just bit my tongue and laughed inside since I cannot wait. I'll take a photo next time I am there
I really don't understand why people who hate skyscrapers move to big cities, let alone their downtown areas of big cities.
Excellent news. I think this tower will have a lot of impact on the skyline, further widening it.
I do agree with Plinko though on the buildings orientation, but who knows....

Apparently, the June 11th start was a little optimistic.

Meanwhile, the developer, Mike Kriozere, and his new capital partner (Principal Global Investors) are being coy about when the second tower of the One Rincon project might get started. It could happen by August, according to real estate sources.
Apparently they were indeed waiting for that permit:

Tower II: Four years after the economy tanked, a developer of One Rincon Hill plans to finally break ground this week on that second giant condo tower next to the Bay Bridge.
"We are ready to start," said Michael Kriozere of Urban West Associates, which developed One Rincon and is now advising on the new project.
According to Kriozere, One Rincon Hill's second tower will be a "52-story 450-foot version" of the existing tower with some subtle internal changes and new features.
Either that's incorrect, or those are some really compact floors. Is that a typo, where they meant "540" instead?

The zoning for rincon hill was 550' and 450' with additional allowances for mechanical and architectural features. Thus tower one is 641'. In the same light, tower two will be 450' + 91' = 541' This was confirmed way back in 2006 when J Church got his hands on the architectural drawings. Fflint verified this to be correct.
I walked by One Rincon II today on my way to the Giants game. A backhoe has demo'ed all of the asphalt, which is stockpiled, ready to be off-hauled. It did not look like below ground excavation has started, but could begin once the asphalt is removed from the site (this week perhaps?).
