Any history on context on these buildings?

Hi,

I've always liked looking at Montreal, there is some very unique and interesting buildings. I recently came across this massive block of fairly tall (for being out of downtown) buildings, but what stood out is how HUGE the floors are, some are 200x400 feet (or about the size of an average block in downtown).

Were these old factory buildings converted to office? Is there something significant about the location in the city?

Thanks!

Welcome! These things are fascinating and beautiful in their ugliness. Avenue de Gaspé (in Montreal) have some other good examples.

Oh wow, that is another nice collection of them.

Agree, they are ugly if taken alone, but in context of their history, location, and how they complement the broader city...more interesting to have them vs. not having them.

Feels like there could be some interesting, niche businesses that needed a huge amount of floor area, but not the height. For example a company making wiring harnesses for things like a but, train, or plane. Need lots of space, not a lot of weight, no height needed.
