i live in copenhagen now

back in early may, i left pristina and headed north. it was time, i think, for things like tap water and metro systems to make a reappearance in my life. though my time in kosovo was great, i never thought i'd stay there long term. western europe, however, is another story.

i have walked all around copenhagen over the past eight weeks, but i can't say that i know it yet — not in anything more than a superficial sense, anyway. i do know, however, that it has a lot of the things i like in a city: it's urban, walkable, and it has a good overall vibe and style. the metro and the s-train will take you pretty much anywhere you want to go, and they are adding 18 more stations right now (which has turned many of the city's main squares into walled-off construction sites, unfortunately).

so here's the danish capital through the eyes of a newcomer and his outdated smartphone.

Yeah, this thread made me feel sad for all the other cities in the world. Especially mine.

it's a great place, but as of yesterday i am no longer allowed to shoot my neighbor's dog, so that's a bit of a bummer.

civilization and its discontents, i guess.

when i first read the title, i thought it meant shoot in the photographic sense, ie. "i shot a bunch of photos of my cat the other day." not literally shooting.

It looks utterly gorgeous. Do winters get really cold/harsh there though?

Gorgeous, of course. I'm still surprised how American parts of it look.

^ Well I suppose the Americans copied certain European attributes in the development of some of their early cities, although much less effectively the the originals. Europe placed much more importance on public space than America, including Canada. We don't even have proper publicly owned places of assembly anymore.

Great set of pictures, this city is impressive to see.

Robson Square, Churchill Square, Olympic Plaza, Nathan Philips Square, Dundas Square, Parliament Hill, Place des Arts, Place d'Armes, etc would beg to differ.

Nothing like a Chicago winter, probably temperature wise has more of a climate like Vancouver, BC, perhaps a little cooler. It doesn't snow all that much which may surprise many, although in recent years it has.

Now, the major difference between NA winters and Scandinavian winters is that they are way more dark and dreary. In the winter months, the lack of daytime light makes it very depressing. Also, it's for the most part very overcast, drizzly, and windy for a good 7-8 months of the year.

That said, in my opinion people exaggerate how bad it is. I'll take a Danish winter any day over a Minnesota winter.

----

Beautiful photos, glad you are enjoying the city so much. I love the neighborhoods with row homes, they're known as the potato rows.

there are a few blocks of those sort of low rowhouses near østerbro, and some others at the opposite end of the city, by vesterbro. they remind me of england, but i can see some canada/u.s. in there too maybe...

i like those too. i have found a few pockets of them, one kind of trashy one up near bispebjerg station that was messily intriguing. they're a nice change sometimes.

Great photos of Copenhagen! Thanks for sharing. I like the pictures you´ve captured in that pretty city. I think Copenhagen is a model city.

Congrats and greetings from Madrid, Spain.

Terrific set, kool. Copenhagen looks fantastic. Can you or anyone tell me where this one is?

I absolutely love this residential form. I'd like to explore the area on Google Maps.
