Yes, there was a Roy's Square at the edge of the property. It had a cafe, and a few places to sit down. Personally, I didn't find it so great, but some people love it.

Laneways with cafes/retail are vibrant, but there was nothing attractive about Roy Square. Every building was a ghastly embarrassment, the pavement crap, and so was the retail. If you're going to do a laneway, the one behind 5ive Condos will be a good template.

I'm glad Roy Square was as terrible as it was otherwise people would have lobbied to save it. Things have their place and this was the wrong place for it. Roy Square belonged in Guatemala not downtown Toronto.

But, people did lobby to save the businesses. I really couldn't care less about how the buildings looked as a recent grad with mounting debt and a 32K a year job. You will never find such great food for pennies in this area again. This is happening everywhere throughout the core. It's not necessarily a bad thing but, Toronto is losing some of its urban vibe as part of the gentrification process. Of course, we do need another Apple Store.

I might get a few photos today of One Bloor and some other U/C's in the Yorkville vicinity.
