Like Shane said, Devon most likely will finance the tower just to help out OKC - I do agree. But, Devon has a cash position that they dont NEED to finance it; this was my point.

This is not true with most other tower projects across the country, who NEED financing and up front leasing in-order for the project to commence. For Devon, this is not the case.

Im sure, even if devon didn't need the skyscraper they would still build it - so that Nickels could leave a legacy for OKC. .. He's just that type of person, really.

As for the Asia District, Shane, I think your numbers are from 2000 census.

I think today OKC has more like 30,000 people living in the Asia district. I think the city is 5% Asian.

Not huge, true. But the biggest in Oklahoma and all neighbouring states (except TX). OKC does have a sizable Asian population in this regard.

The asian streetscapes are coming along nicely now too. There are a few pagodas in the median, some of the landcaping is done as well. It's not as large scale as some of the proposals, but it's still interesting. I think it would have been really cool to have the pagodas go over the street like the origional plan, but I understand how costs sort of took control on a sperfluous project.

I saw a video from newsok.com interviewing the manager on the opening of the hotel and it looks like the Hamton Inn in Bricktown is opening soon now. They'll definitely make it for the Big XII tourney next month and I believe I read that it's allready booked solid for that event. Looks like a nice place and even has sort of a small water park inside instead of just a pool. We're not talking Skirvin, but it looks a step up from a normal Hampton.

Took these a few weeks ago from the top of the Bricktown parking garage, shows the new lofts and developments in Deep Deuce/Triangle areas as well as a few of the cranes over the Medical District.

not in a highspeed train. That would be a total waste.

Tulsa needs a highspeed spur connection to OKC, and OKC needs a highspeed connection to Dallas. OKC needs a regular connection to Wichita and Newton/KC.

That is what makes sense.

Hey what's up OKLAHOMA CITY! I'm from Salt Lake but my wife is from OKLAHOMA, we both live in Salt Lake City, but have talked about moving to OKLAHOMA CITY. I got to go there for the first time a few weeks ago. You guys have a nice downtown and skyline. I really liked "Bricktown" I also really like the "Skirvin building"
So I heard a rumor that you guys are getting a 50+ story building soon? Are there any renderings of it?

SLC, I'd like to welcome you to OKC. I am an expat but was born and raised there, and still follow development and am a huge booster of the renaissance taking place.

If you'd like a more intimate OKC discussion, there are OKC centric forums that discuss development and city life in more detail (Ill let you google it, haha so not to disappoint SSP).

But yes, OKC is booming and has been rather organic for the past 15 years or so. I personally prefer OKC to SLC (I've been, but did not care for the ultra conservative nature) for most things other than your mountains which OKC doesn't have.

As for nightlife, OKC is more of a very big college city in atmosphere that is slowly but surely emerging as a major US city. One thing that I love about OKC now is the pride that people NOW have in their city.

Again, if you're serious about moving - I don't think you will make a mistake. The price is right (you can live right in or near downtown for very inexpensive) and yet be in the middle of all of the action.

And yes, we're all excited about Devon Tower - because this is being built during the recession; we're all hoping for a HUGE explosion (for OKC anyways) once the recession is over.
