It's hard to tell from the photo. But the very top portion of the building, with the mechanical vents, looks to be finished and much smoother.

I just can't believe it would be finished that badly with all those joints being out of whack and overall looking like a POS.

This project screams "I want to build 120 dwelling units but my budget can only accommodate 20. Where can I cut corners?"

The north side of the building is finished and it looks smooth, the pic posted is not the final finish.

$28.5 million. I guess it’s not for everyone’s taste...

Anyways thanks for checking out Winnipeg subforum.

It’s also designed by Michael Maltzan Architecture. I guess Mississauga is not comfortable with a bit of LA vibe...?

I dig it. It's a neat new piece of architecture for Winnipeg. Wouldn't want to live there though... those small windows aren't for me, and the location isn't great. Maybe alright for U of W students...

The building is now know as Muse Flats.

Here are some pictures of the suites:

Thanks for posting the interior photos. It's an interesting building, a very contemporary vibe. Some folks will love the unconventional placement of the windows and suite shapes, others will be outraged by it because they personally don't like it. For myself I am fine with an assortment of apartment styles/configurations available for the Winnipeg market. Diverse city, diverse selection!

I agree, the interior all looks pretty good. The CRU (I assume that's what it is) on the ground level also looks very similar to the Stellas on Portage and Memorial. Any word on who will occupy that space?

first off, I love checking out the Winnipeg forum thank you. secondly, am I not allowed to think that is incredibly hideous? I am certain that I am not the only out there that thinks that.. it's a matter of opinion... we're all entitled to them. I had forgotten I can already commented before on this project I'm just incredibly surprised that this is the finished product.
that building is gonna be tagged with graffiti like crazy. Look at all the visible seams between panels... its unrefined. If you are going for avant guard, I just think the finishings should be top notch and spare no detail. This just looks sloppy. Lastly, it's Winnipeg.. I don't see why an LA vibe would be fitting under any circumstance... I'd shoot for an Oslo vibe...not LA.

also, I'm speaking on my behalf, not on behalf of Mississauga.. maybe they'd be ok with a bit of an LA vibe.. I dunno.

I don’t think yours is a controversial opinion. The architect would probably approve of your reaction.

Everybody has an opinion and is entitled to it. If the exterior finish was completed well, I'd like it more. But it looks like crap IMO. Not executed very well by looking at the photos.

The interior is alright. It's new, so will look decent. Not a huge fan of that exposed concrete. But to each their own. Also, are there any lights in there? I see one in the kitchen.

It's OK for student housing. I don't think the building itself is horrendous but it isn't exactly a showpiece either. A good filler building like the other U of W backed midrises that have gone up in recent years.

I don't think it looks great either but at the end of the day I love seeing increased density in the core. Someone was willing to put this up without public funds, who am I to argue. If 10 more of these go up, I still wouldn't complain. Not all new builds can be TNS.

Don't get me wrong, I'm happy for these type of developments. Just the finish is not ideal. Hopefully it holds up over time and does not look like compete crap in 5 years.
