Now you know to take 403 instead of the 401 if you ever go to Toronto.

Eventually the 401 will be at least 10 lanes from Kitchener to Toronto. Can't wait to zoom in that long-ass HOV lane once it's done, but at this rate I'll have to wait for quite a long time.

Um, maybe if you have a magical hovercar to get down the QEW, sure, take the 403.

I'd bet dollars to donuts that the 401 beats the 403/QEW most of the time. The QEW is seemingly jammed all the time.

I take 403 when I visit my Mom in crOakville. I take 401 when I visit my wife's folks in Missingsausage. I much prefer 403, but yeah, QEW gets backed up a lot.

I always take the 403, never have an issue. I have a friend who lives on Lakeshore Blvd, so I just get off there before the Gardiner gets backed up. Plus the 403 is way faster getting you to the DT core of Toronto than 401. I only take the 401 if I'm going to Canada's Wonderland or past Toronto.

Definitely depends on time of day and traffic. Our company has a location right at the 427 and QEW and if traffic is fine, 401 to 427 is always quicker than 403-QEW. Of course, traffic is almost never fine either way, so it comes to which way is more fucked than the other on a given day lol.

And in answer to myself, they are replacing the wall. I noticed today they started ripping out the wall at Veterans and are moving west from there.

I’m wondering. Will 401 through London ever need to have HOV lanes just like Cambridge?

403 is preferable to me and will stay that way now that I’m in Hamilton but in a few years I imagine the 401 will become the better route as most of the bottlenecks will have been removed.. heading into downtown in rush hour should be more or less traffic free until the Humber River on a typical day.

"Ever"? Sure. I could see the 401 between the 402 and 403 getting that in the distant future, probably not in my lifetime though (I'm 50). But given how London sits mostly north of the highway and doesn't have another adjacent large city on the highway, it's a different dynamic than KWCG. If the 401 went right through London instead of grazing by it then HOV lanes would be something more useful than how the current situation is.

KWC gets the thicker 401, their own expressways, and mass transit.

London gets none of the above.

Some of that is due to politics in London though.

Kitchener/Waterloo always seem to take advantage of provincial funding when it becomes available.

When the province was building the 402, London couldn't agree on a corridor, so it ended up getting by-passed. Same for transit. London was a decade behind K/W, and now the funding has seemingly dried up.

It's about a month old, but drone footage of the Miltion-Mississauga widening

Found on Facebook- not sure if you have to have an account to view? Wasn't able to find it anywhere else.

A wrong-way chase happened on 401 between Kingston and Gananoque as multiple O.P.P. cruisers were chasing a driver eastbound in the westbound lanes.

Thankfully, no one died.

401’s closed at Trafalgar Road this weekend. Someone suggest avoiding it between Winston Churchill Blvd and Halton Regional Road 25.

I believe it's only overnight Saturday night into Sunday morning, 8 hours or so closure. Same next weekend.

Does that idiot think he has a snowball's chance in hell of evading arrest?

Now we know who each other is for sure.
Maybe not quite because I don’t use my real name on FB (long story behind it).

When the 401 was widened east of London to Milton, it took almost 20 years. And that was with going east from London, west from Milton and both directions out from Kitchener, although not all at once.

This project from London to Tilbury is a similar distance. As the article states, the first part is going east from Tilbury for 11km and no expropriation is needed. So no red tape to cut through. I wonder how many sections will eventually be worked on at once, or if it will just be a continuous job moving east as each phase is done. If it's just continuously working east, you'd think they could be on top of the land needs a few years ahead of construction anyway. Hopefully some of the work that has been done on the 401 recently down that way speeds up the construction when the widening starts.
