[Saint John] 95 Wentworth (Gothic Arches Redevelopment) | 25 m | 7 fl | U/C

Now that this one's through Third Reading (at least, I didn't hear anything go amiss at tonight's Council meeting), I thought we might as well get a thread up and running.

The development, proposed by Tower Contracting Inc. (Percy Wilbur), is planned to be a 7 storey, 83 unit apartment building with indoor parking, storage and amenity space in the basement and on the ground floor. The development replaces the former Centenary-Queen Square United Church, known in its late days as Gothic Arches, which was demolished after over a decade of abandonment. The developer intends to begin construction this spring.

I'll see about snapping a pic of the site in the coming days but IIRC the former church is completely down at this point.

Now that the city of Saint John has restored its building permit application process the gothic arches site is beginning to ramp up. They have a permit to begin the foundation so that work should be starting soon. We can start using this thread more often now that construction will commence.

As reported a little while ago in the Uptown Thread, the website for The Wentworth is now live.

Here's a Huddle article posted today with some progress updates:

‘The Wentworth’ Construction Still On Track Despite Covid-19
Jun 14, 2020 - by Cherise Letson

SAINT JOHN — Covid-19 hasn’t slowed down the construction of a new apartment complex on Wentworth Street in uptown Saint John.

Developer Percy Wilbur says The Wentworth, which is being built in the former spot of the Gothic Arches, is still on track to being completed by early fall 2021.

...

Wilbur stays the building’s foundation is well underway, with crews planning to pour the slab floor for the complex’s first floor sometime this week. He says social distancing measures have made construction move a little quicker in some ways.

...

A website recently launched showcasing the building’s features and the units that will be up for rent. Suites range from one bedroom/one bathroom plus den to two bedroom/2.5 bathrooms. Rent starts at $1,250.

Wilbur says a dozen units already have deposits on them.

...

Most of the inquiries have come from young professionals and empty-nesters looking to down-size.

Construction is moving rapidly on the site. About half of the site is at street level now.
