Since the ultimate fixes would cost well over a billion I think we’re decades away from anything but minor changes to that stretch

Welcome to the ring, Calgary! 10 months ahead of schedule, if only every project was like this...

Mind you it's 10 months ahead of a schedule because it took a 2 year delay from the planned completion of 2022, so it's ultimately still delayed a full year.

Hopefully I will be able to drive it all the way round one day soon just for the heck of it! How many hours do you think it will take?

It’s only 101 KM. One hour should suffice.

They can finally finish up the Highway 8 bridge replacement over Elbow River now. What an awkward way to do it, but whatever.

Yes - I’m looking forward to that as well.

I really wish they had just bitten the bullet and completed the Crowchild upgrades between Memorial & 24th when they did the bridges over the river - it’s not like it wasn’t warranted.
However that portion is included as part of the “Medium Term” plan for Crowchild which is slated for as early as 2027 so not “decades” away.

Nothing wrong with the fix or replacing the existing bridge. I just don’t know why it wasn’t done as part of the SW RR rather than waiting a mere 3 years after the completion of that project to start the bridges work. I suspect the bridge work was planned to start years later but then Covid came and the Provincial Government needed a make-work project.

I don’t see the city spending a smooth billion on that section of Crowchild. To me putting in one interchange does very little to fix the problem. They either do it all or nothing major. They did minor upgrades to various portions of this stretch the last few years. That might be at best what they will do moving forward.
