Three more downtown buildings to house apartments
Quote:
A Columbus developer plans to buy three historic buildings in downtown Cincinnati and convert them into apartments.

Peak Property Group is under contract to purchase 106 W. Seventh St., 22 W. Seventh St., and 24-26 W. Seventh St. Andrew Lallathin, managing partner at Peak Property, said he’s planning to build a total of 75 apartments in the three buildings.

“These three buildings really make up a nice corridor in the immediate neighborhood,” Lallathin told me.

It's funny, just the other day I was walking by here and was thinking how great of an apartment building that building on the corner would make. And then BAM, there it is haha. Plus two others. And at 700-900 a month they'll be super affordable for a lot more people. This street needs some extra life and this will definitely help.

Definitely. I can't wait until they release the plans for the Ingall's building.

$26M development coming near Horseshoe Casino
Quote:
Broadway Square, a $26 million residential and retail redevelopment project, will start later this year in the area just north of Horseshoe Casino Cincinnati.

The redevelopment project is expected to transform a large portion of Pendleton, a small neighborhood east of Over-the-Rhine. Split into two phases, Broadway Square will stretch from Elliot Street to 13th Street and include buildings that had served as apartments at three of the four corners at Broadway and 12th streets.

“This is a big deal for Pendleton,” said Bobby Maly, chief operating officer of Model Group. “We’ve been excited about that neighborhood for a while.”

The first phase of Broadway Square, which received $10.2 million in new markets tax credits in September, will include 40,000 square feet of residential space — 26 one-bedroom and 13 two-bedroom units — and about 11,000 square feet of retail space. At least 39 apartments will be included in the second phase, Maly said.

Take a look at Cintrifuse's new OTR workspace
Quote:
It was a brewery, a beer hall, a union hall, a speakeasy and the notorious Warehouse night club, but in about a year, the building at 1313 Vine St. in Over-the-Rhine will be Cintrifuse’s new home.

Cintrifuse kicked off the renovation of the building on Thursday morning, with CEO Jeff Weedman and members of city council ceremoniously pulling nails out of the old beer hall’s wall.

“When you take a look around and see, this is really the before picture,” Weedman said. “In a year … we’re looking forward to having a ribbon cutting on this, but you’ve got to understand the journey is just beginning.”

Thanks for the rundown. It's so exciting seeing it all in one place, and this isn't including any of the small projects happening throughout the core.

One project I'd throw into that list though is the SCPA hotel conversion. That's a pretty major project that is imminent.

True. It's nice to have so many things going on that you can forget about significant projects!

First look at streetcar's modern design
Quote:
The rail cars that will run on Cincinnati’s streetcar route are expected to have a streamlined, modern design – with a nod to the past.

The five streetcars will be painted orange, gray and white, feature a street-level floor and have a nearly all-glass front, according to renderings posted on the rail-car manufacturer’s official website.

Mayor Mark Mallory and a representative from manufacturer CAF USA are expected to officially unveil the renderings to streetcar supporters during a rally Monday night in Over-the-Rhine.

I'm so happy they went with the yellow and not the red or white as originally showed. This color is far more modern and will really stand out on the streets. This has gotten me even more excited than I thought it would. I can't wait to see the tracks laid in the next week or so.

So happy to see these. What are the colors of the existing bus fleet, BTW? Will they be the one's running the service?

Wasn't the red a reference to the original Cincinnati Railways paint scheme?

The buses are blue, green, and white.

There are three color scheme combinations based on the type of service. Normal buses are primarily white with green and blue accents. Hybrid buses are primarily green with blue and white accents and MetroPlus buses are primarily blue with white and green accents. Honestly I really dislike the combination of green and blue so I'm glad the streetcar trains will have no relation to the buses.

Yeah, my bus system has a white, blue and green color scheme, and I've never liked blue and green, together. The only saving grace is that our buses are mostly white with blue and green detailing. Detroit's proposed commuter rail trains will also have a terrible blue and green scheme.

I know I asked it above, will SORTA be the operator of the streetcar service? I'm just trying to figure out if this is being coordinated with the existing transit system, or some new organization.

Err, scratch that. I was thinking that the CSR scheme was red, it was in fact orange and cream so this new livery seems to be a definite nod to history.

Yes, Metro will be the operator of the streetcar system. Metro's new and successful BRT-lite terminates at Government Square, which is right in the middle of the streetcar route.
