^^^ Surely an error, no? Think the permit just issued would have mentioned hotel. I doubt the PD has this flexibility. Also, Golub doesn't do hotel development a AFAIK (see their history of involvement w Block 37 and their avoidance of hotel component). Mr. Downtown: any chance you're able to squash this rumor?

Overheard on WBBM radio was a fragment of some mention of some kind of relocation of the station to somewhere on Dearborn. Maybe this explains the boarding up of the streetside studio windows.

^^ Bidclerk is incredibly inaccurate. I'd take most of their information with a grain of salt.

Cross-posted from the Moynihan Station thread:

http://www.capitalnewyork.com/articl...eens-rail-yard

Quote:
Amtrak is considering developing Sunnyside Yards in Queens as part of a nationwide evaluation of its real estate portfolio and could turn to investors as early as next spring to find partners willing to explore potential uses for those properties, the company’s chairman, Anthony Coscia, said Thursday.

There are additional development sites the company is discussing in Chicago, Philadelphia, Baltimore and Washington, D.C.
Not much, but we were discussing a possible Lend Lease deal and this is equally tentative. I'd love to see development over the South Loop railyard. Seems like the city is dead set against residential in that area, though, and it's possible that Amtrak is just referring to the Union Station highrise and the parking garage, plus the remaining Gateway site by the Megabus stop.

Im just going to guess and say this is the Lend Lease project.

https://www.bidclerk.com/project/810136.html

Quote:
Demolition, site work, and new construction of a mixed-use development in Chicago. Design drawings call for the demolition of existing structures and phased construction of 7,845 residential units and approximately 500,000 square feet of retail space
New plans or more like vision for post office??

Yeah it would have to be the Old Main Post Office. First phase was supposed to be around 2000 residential units. After the sterling bay deal went south it would make sense that they would be trying to get a new cost estimate.

Wut. Teh. Fuk.

Even the Post Office fantasy/ebola fever nightmare wasn't supposed to have that many units. That's just insane if it's a real proposal. That's basically a Lake Shore East sized proposal if it's real.

Couldn't be post office because the bidclerk clearly states "demolition of existing structures" and goes on to suggest it is all new construction. Could this be something for the Reese site or Prairie Shores?

I'm not complaining or anything about having almost 8,000 units, but damn, is someone trying to build the Burj Khalifa?

EDIT: Apparently even the Burj Khalifa doesn't have that many units. Either this is for massive lands such as the Reese site and Lakeside (U.S. Steel Southworks site), or someone is trying to resurrect the plan of building "The Illinois".

Presidential Towers is the biggest residential project in town, I'd guess, and it has just over 2,000 units. That's four 50 story towers. For 7k units you'd need all 4 imaginary phases of that Antunovich design plus a few more invisible towers and possibly an underground cavern all filled with units.

That's before my time, but a quick search looks like that's a giant multiblock redevelopment plan just south of McCormick, an area that's on a fast track toward sudden growth. Is it possible Lend Lease is swooping in to bring that project back from the dead? I thought we learned our lesson about massive planned developments like that. McCaffrey's south side planned community just fizzled, didn't it?

I have faith that Lend Lease can get things accomplished. More than anyone from the U.K. ever will.

How did all this Lend Lease talk begin again? They said they were doing something in town?
