Interesting project - it is MUCH more visually attractive compared to the old complex!

When is it scheduled to be 100% complete? I am returning to Paris in May 2014 and am curious to see the difference for myself

Thanks for the photos!

I had no idea this was going on. I remember back in 2003 going through the Forum des Halles to catch the RER B line back to Gentilly and the place struck me as some dingy airport terminal straight out of the 1960's or 70's.

Not sure I'm a fan of the canopy, but the rearrangement and opening up to the air of the retail is a definite improvement. BTW, is the 67,800 square feet of retail space in addition to what's already there, or did they demolish the old mall and the 67,800 square feet the size of the new mall?

It is in addition to the current mall.
Forum des Halles is one of the busiest mall in Europe, they can't demolishe it.

15,000 sq foot Hip Hop center?

Never seen a major city embrace hip hop like that.

Pffffff... hell, of course I have to be obnoxious to that shocking thing. I think the first 2 pics are quite telling about their way too large canopy. Nothing short of worrying and even appalling to me. It seems oppressive when you're standing underneath that thing, and hilariously large and flat, something crushed like a crêpe (some French pancake) from above outside. Haïaïaïe... We'll see how it feels once you're actually standing in there, but I've got a bad feeling about this. It's just both too wide and low ceiling, causing an oppressive feeling to be crushed in there.

Does anyone know if the paint coating for the canopy structure was an aesthetic choice, a choice to protect the structure, or both?

It is Paris, what isn't an aesthetic choice?

I asked because I personally find the color pretty off-putting and distracting from the actual structure.
