This project has been cancelled.

Quote:
MONTREAL - Canderel’s Phillips Square site, long promoted as the future location of a gleaming 900,000 square foot LEED certified office tower is up for sale, The Gazette has learned.

Eager to capitalize on growing demand for buildable land downtown, a Canderel executive said the company wants to sell because it’s already busy with an office project in the Quartier des spectacles, along with plans for a new, soon-to-be-announced residential development.

“Having three (projects) in the same city at the same time was a little too much,” said Daniel Peritz, Canderel’s senior vice-president, Montreal and Ottawa.

Too bad, it was a sharp looking building.

That was to be expected. 900 000 sq.f of office space in Montreal in a single tower was a tad too much.

No surprise here. And yes it is too bad.

There is no way we are going to see any major office tower go up for another 3-5 years at least. And when we do it will be 30 floors max, perhaps it will be the 900 maisonneuve, hell we've been talking about that one long before Ben's had been torn down to make way for that timid little hotel.

If this project is dead then I wonder why the sign wasn't taken down. I was out walking with my partner and we took a pic of it but I can't upload it cause it's on my computer...and the pic on the sign is different than any rendering posted here so far.

If anyone wants to, pm me with an e-mail addy and I'll forward it. :-)

The project is no longer dead. Canderel decided not to sell the land and are hoping to develop it after their Bleury project with FTQ.

Thanks for the info GDS, but by no longer does this mean there's an actual, substantial building still being proposed or that Candarel just decided to hold on to the land as a means of speculation? In fact, some here have suggested that this project's purpose was a vehicle of speculation from the get go...

Sorry for getting your hopes up, I'm just adding a large render of the project since the existing render seemed to have disappeared.
