It is. The Loop Trolley is a $44 million fixed-track trolley that will use overhead electric wires.

absolutely. or even down Delmar to Kingshighway and back up Oakland to Skinker. then it could have served the zoo as well as hitting some of the new developments along Oakland, Clayton-Tamm, all the residential along Skinker between Oakland and Lindell, and Wash. U.

Here are before and after photos of Concourse C. I personally don't think either is bad, but the after photo of the reno'd terminal looks more modern, up-to-date, calmer and cleaner.

Would have been cool if the black signs had been upgraded, but changed to blue.

I noticed that too. Not good to stereotype, but that little group did look a little Ozarkish.

Street Car For Downtown St. Louis? (RFQ)

There are plans in the works for a new street car line in St. Louis.

The Partnership for Downtown St. Louis says the cost of the study is $200,000 and is being paid for by private donations. The partnership says if a streetcar line were to be built, it would likely require a private-public partnership.

Qualifications are due by 12:00 p.m. (noon) local time on Friday, June 22, 2012.

A number of urban planners and civic-minded people believe the downtown/central corridor street car needs to utilize Olive St./Lindell Boulevard streets (as shown the photos below) for optimal use and to build on the current development success of the corridor.

Along this corridor is the downtown core, downtown west, Midtown Alley, Harris-Stowe State University, St. Louis University, Wells Fargo Advisors (some 5,000 workers), Grand Center, Central West End, Forest Park, Skinker-DeBaliviere neighborhood.

It would connect to the new Loop Trolley.

Grand Boulevard Bridge and MetroLink Station

Video and photos below.

The new Grand Boulevard bridge in Midtown St. Louis connecting North St. Louis to South St. Louis had a soft opening on 07/13/12. After hanging out on Washington Avenue for a short period, I ventured out on the bridge on 07/14/12.

The bridge, which carries more than 30,000 cars daily, is not completely finished, but one lane of traffic has opened in each direction until the project is finished. The $30-million bridge should be completely finished by the end of August.

The streetscape on Grand Boulevard from Grand Center – on the north - to St. Louis University Medical Center (SLUCare) - on the south - has become more vibrant in recent years and the new bridge as well as the newly-refurbished MetroLink Midtown/SLU station will only adding to the on-going transformation of Midtown St. Louis.

Below is my amateurish video.

Video Link

List of Bridge Enhancements (See Photos Below)

-A new transit plaza. The plaza will be protected from weather. The new plaza will include:

-Seating, a vending area, landscaping and new lighting, including lit paving stones and lit artwork.

-A new bus turnout area between the MetroLink Station and the new plaza.

-New elevator and stair tower structures that connect the plaza below to the bridge bus stops above.

-Metro worked with an artist, Barbara Grygutis, who has helped make the design of the plaza more “organic” and welcoming, with touches like a decorative iron fence and using different colored paving stones, including some clear blue stones that will be lit from below with LED lights. Ms. Grygutis will also create a lit art piece in her unique style that will help enhance the area. Ms. Grygutis’s work on the project is funded from the 1% public art and enhancement funds as required by federal guidelines.

-Metro will be adding wind and rain shelters for Metro customers.

-The City is constructing bus pullouts that will get buses out of traffic when they stop.

-The transit stop is moving further north, closer to the end of the bridge and the main SLU campus.

-The City's project on Grand will replace the current six lanes with four divided lanes (with a landscaped center median), wider sidewalks, and better lighting.

Trains could return to St. Louis Union Station

Read More: http://www.stltoday.com/business/loc...9bb30f31a.html

Quote:
Redevelopment plans for Union Station call for more hotel and office space, less retail – and maybe even a return of trains, along with a transportation museum.

Bob O'Loughlin – whose Lodging Hospitality Management is scheduled to close this week on the station's purchase – said Monday that excursion trains could be the ticket needed to reverse the sagging fortunes of the underused downtown landmark. "A railroad transportation museum could be a driver to get people down there," he said. "We want to get a museum that honors the heritage of Union Station … Nothing is done yet, but we feel confident we want to go in that direction."

As soon as LHM closes Thursday on its $20 million purchase of Union Station, work will begin to convert the existing retail space along the station's Midway into a 50,000-square-foot expansion of hotel meeting space "so we'll be able to house a good-sized convention," O'Loughlin said. "There are very few hotels in the United States that have an exhibition hall with that much space," said O'Loughlin, adding that the expansion will complement the hotel's existing meeting rooms.

MidAmerica Airport forms partnership with airport in China
Jamie Forsythe
Source: Belleville News-Democrat
Created: October 4, 2012

Oct. 04--MidAmerica St. Louis Airport in Mascoutah (Illinois) has formed a partnership with an airport in China in hopes of establishing a trade route between both airports.

The announcement about the partnership between MidAmerica and Ningbo Lishe International Airport, located in the Zhiezhang Province of China, was made public Wednesday at The International Air Cargo Association 26th Air Cargo Forum in Atlanta. The agreement between the two airports has been in effect since January.

The agreement highlights four specific areas for both airports to work on, which are as follows: assist to organize freight originating from each airport to assist carriers; assist air carriers to start new air service; assist all trade route users with government approvals and support; and coordinate joint discussions and joint marketing to users of the trade route.

"Our partnership with the Ningbo Municipality and Ningbo Lishe International Airport has been an example of excellent second tier airport cooperation to support their international aims," said St. Clair County Board Chairman Mark Kern said. "We look forward to having goods and services passing on the Ningbo-MidAmerica-Latin America trade route in both directions. MidAmerica and Ningbo Lishe Airports are well equipped to handle high value dry goods and perishables in a safe, secure, efficient and economical way."

In June, a key operational component of this MidAmerica-Ningbo joint effort began as North Bay Produce Inc. opened its $5.7 million, 36,448-square-foot refrigerated, perishable warehouse at MidAmerica. For North Bay, an international fresh produce marketing and distribution cooperative, headquartered in Traverse City, Mich., the company's expansion to MidAmerica Airport is a key step in its plans to open the Asian trade lane that is integral to the company's future growth.

North Bay was one of several U.S. exporting companies that traveled with Kern on a January trade mission to Ningbo. Kern and Ningbo's Vice Mayor, along with over 100 Ningbo area stakeholder businesses, held meetings and discussions on linking both communities to world trade via air cargo.

North Bay produce will be one of the first benefactors from the new trade route and plans to start using air for logistics solutions for its import and export shipments from Central and South America before the end of 2012. The company is in discussions with several airlines for this service, while Ningbo Airport is in simultaneous discussions with Chinese air carriers for the service from Ningbo to MidAmerica.

North Bay Produce Inc. announced that its facility at MidAmerica St. Louis Airport will receive its first international air shipment of produce — 88,000 pounds of berries from South America valued at $500,000 — on Nov. 10.

The arrival marks the beginning of air cargo movements through MidAmerica on the trade lane between the Americas and Asia. LAN Cargo will be flying a 767 loaded with the berries.

Ground shipments from around North America have been processed at the facility since July.

In June, North Bay Produce opened its $5.7 million, 36,448-square-foot refrigerated warehouse at MidAmerica in Mascoutah, Ill. It announced the facility in October 2011.

MidAmerica St. Louis Airport also will see Allegiant Airlines resume passenger service to and from Orlando, Fla., beginning Nov. 7.

A nearly three mile stretch of Tucker Blvd. in downtown St. Louis is getting a phased makeover with new ramps and reroutes to eventually connect with the yet-to-be named new Mississippi River bridge. Below are photos I took recently.

Once the entire $34 million Tucker Blvd. project is completed, Tucker will be a four-lane, landscaped thoroughfare between Washington and the bridge construction area with classic lighting and smart signaling.

Once the bridge opens, it is expected that the stretch will be reshaped by new real estate developments.

Lambert-St Louis International Airport has begun a project to upgrade two major entrances to Terminal 1 that were damaged during a tornado on 22 April 2011.

The entrances have been redesigned to enhance the airport’s architecture and will be constructed as sleek, all-glass enclosed walkways to provide more natural light to illuminate the public pathways to and from the lower level baggage claim area.

The airport will use Eastman’s Saflex and Vanceva interlayers that promise to provide safety, security and UV protection to the laminated glass. Llumar decorative window films will provide a distinct design pattern to the enclosed walkways and the project will be completed in the spring of 2013.

“When the tornados hit our region last spring, we knew we wanted to bring increased safety to Lambert-St. Louis International Airport,” said Eric Nichols, vice president and general manager of Eastman’s advanced interlayers product lines. “Saflex PVB interlayers for laminated glass and Eastman’s performance films’ Llumar post applied decorative window films bring both safety and UV protection to the pedestrian walkway project at the main terminal. Our products are used in airport applications around the world, and we are happy these products will welcome visitors to the St. Louis region through our “gateway,” Lambert-St. Louis International Airport.”

The terminal entrances reconstruction is part of the overall tornado restoration campaign by the airport totaling approximately $22 million (£13.75 million). The airport is also in the final months of its $70 million (£43.7 million) Airport Experience Program, which will be the largest interior renovation of Terminal 1 (built 1956) and its concourses when it’s completed in 2013. Improvements include renovated toilets, higher ceilings, new lighting, new interior wall and flooring surfaces, new wayfinding signage and digital directories.

The new $111-million I-64 Daniel Boone Bridge in the Chesterfield Valley broke ground on Jan 3, 2013. The bridge crosses the Missouri River and connects west St. Louis County (Laird Technologies North America, Reinsurance Group, Energizer, Scottrade) to St. Charles County (Mastercard Global Technology Center, CitiMortgage, True).

The bridge is being built upstream of the existing two river crossings. When complete in late 2015, the original 1935 bridge will be removed and the new bridge will be its replacement.

The coolest features will be an observation deck of the Missouri River and a bikeway.

Here's progress on the new $667 million Mississippi River Bridge, which will reroute I-70 in downtown St. Louis. The will be a 1,500 foot cable-stayed bridge across the Mississippi River between Metro East (Illinois) and St. Louis, Missouri. The bridge is two lanes in each direction, but is wide enough to be restriped for three lanes in each direction if traffic volumes warrant and additional funding is secured.

By the way, I vote for the bridge to be named The President Barack H. Obama Bridge. Besides ending two wars and a host of other positives, he's from Illinois (Chicago) and the largest rally for his first campaign for POTUS was in St. Louis under the Gateway Arch - 100,000 people. Only Denver had slightly more two weeks later.

Note: All photos are from MoDot.

First four photos are of a realigned Tucker Blvd. in downtown St. Louis.

Although I think there should have, no. However, there are two other nearby bridges that are upstream and downstream for pedestrians and bikers - the historic Eads bridge (downtown, Washington Avenue) and the Chain of Rocks/Route 66 bridge (upstream) for pedestrians and bikers.
