Sounds like Ken needs to send a cease and desist. Maybe Bunt wants to go nasty lawyer on Ken's behalf?

It seems like a pretty critical take on suburban development.

I'm co-counseling this then.

From what others have told me, it's Denver's The Suburbanist

Love it.

/eyes roll... Let's hope it's more informational than political but it takes all kinds I guess. Per your link:

.@asmuniz Not only is population dispersal beneficial during a nuclear war, but there's little gain for flying a 767 into a Waffle House.
Okay, Good to know.
If you are correct then we'll need a new name for this thread.

"Retrofitting Dead and Dying Suburban Malls: What Works?"

Nice article by Dean Saitta for Planetizen
Quote:
This topic is of interest because Denver has been retrofitting its dead and dying suburban malls for a while now, on a New Urbanist “town center” model.

Dunham-Jones routinely identifies Belmar on the site of the old Villa Italia Mall in suburban Lakewood as a retrofit success story, distinguished by green buildings, great connectivity, and a nice “sense of place.”

He pitches Belmar as “a model for redeveloping suburban malls across the U.S.” Alan Ehrenhalt, in The Great Inversion, casts Denver as “the emerging capital” of America’s suburban town center phenomenon.
It's a fun read; Dean discusses how he sends various students from his DU classes out to view 3 different malls and discuss. Some nice pics along the way as well.

Not a bad idea to have a Denver suburban thread but not sure about that name. LOL

That's an interesting read. I do think those examples are some of the best ways suburbs can be redeveloped into something quasi-urban. I think he may be pushing the race issue a little too far though, especially in the case of Southglenn. It's not a surprise that the one development in what's probably the whitest part of the city is full of white people. That's an issue that no single development could ever solve on its own.

I'm assuming that this can be posted here in this thread, since in a way Windsor can be considered a burb of Denver.... but then, I guess this can just as easily go into the Front Range Development thread as well. I'll post this here, and if anyone want to (or not is perfectly ok as well) cross-post.... fine with me.

Anyways......

http://www.bizjournals.com/denver/bl...l?iana=ind_cre

isn't this something akini to what Gaylord in Aurora wants to do.... and Gaylord already got state funding?

Somehow, rereading both Gaylord and this now.... it seems kinda like they both want to do the same things in different locations?

And will DT Denver associations have as much fun with this as they did with the Gaylord project?

I would prefer we post suburban news updates to a thread named for such, and not this current thread about a new website.

I decided to do some sleuthing for Denver Metro Suburban apartment construction. Not much luck, yet. One that I was already aware of was Wood Partners new 306 unit
Alta series at 3650 So. Broadway which is a nice "infill" site. It is heading for the finish line and offering units for lease.
