The ownership names won't change until the contract is closed and recorded. The rumor is they have the sites under contract or are in the process of negotiating a contract. Even if they are already under contract, it could take months to close the deal. But it is just a rumor so who knows? My source is a Statesman employee, btw, not that that means anything.

I am purely speculating, but it sounds like Father will be taking charge on these new projects and not his son. I am guessing one is hotel and one isn't or mixed. It just seems odd to announce these intentions when the other had such a hard time getting off the ground is barely breaking ground now. It just seems like it's the old, "son you had your chance, now dad is going to take over".

I drove by the site on Monday, and it appears they already dug a big hole. Looks to be around 30ft.

Site Prep is moving rather slowly on this project. There is a big hole and big piles of dirt and former parking lot pieces, but the activity on the 500 W 2nd St tower puts this one to shame.

They're still digging. The concrete they're pouring I think is to shore up the support walls for the pit.

I went by the other day. They are still working on the retaining wall, and there is a big hole in the ground. But i did not see any equipment on site. They've really gotten off to a speedy start with this one.

There was a recent permit for traffic control on Cesar Chavez, and there's an electronic sign on Cesar Chavez indicating that traffic flow will change in that area beginning 02/08.

This seems to be the best option regarding traffic flow. I guess Rainey st. residents will have to use East ave. if they are traveling westbound. At least now we should see some serious activity on Fairmont.

The solid fence around the Fairmont site has been replaced with a chain link fence. So the action on the site is clearly visible now. It's busy this morning with trucks hauling away dirt from the excavation.

I walked past there last weekend. The hold covers the entire site and has gotten pretty deep already.
