I’ve never seen this block 16 proposal rendering. What project is this?

I think the consensus is the proposed ATX East may be north of 1000' tall. ATX West may be between 650' & 750'. However, this development may require a PPP with the city due to the convention center expansion.

Missing from the list:

-4th & Brazos (823'/65 stories)
-Travis-Tower II (704'/60 stories)

There are some legit skyscrapers east of 35 already, like RBJ and that new one at MLK.

Now that we have passed Project Connect, the Green Line commuter rail will be a key component in upzoning areas east of 35. In fact, the city did just that the other day with the old Motorola campus off of 183 just a stones throw from a potential Green Line station with heights on one parcel up to 400’ and 120’ elsewhere. The details aren’t exactly nailed down what will end up happening here, as the proposals keep changing, but something will happen here. This is half the distance from downtown as the Domain and IBM with basically the same development premise and is now also on a commuter rail line.

We already have VMU development built, in progress, or proposed all the way out to this development, too. It isn’t as if this is detached from our existing urban core. It is an extension of it. Visually speaking, it’ll be a cohesive skyline with two nodes.

Short answer: there already are, there are current proposals, and there will be more.

It's still approved as two towers with the apartment tower being built first and the second condo & hotel tower being built after the first one is completed. But I'm starting to think this project has Covid.

So, yeah, Austin has 8 towers on the way that are over 700 feet. One of those is under construction (6 X Guadalupe). To put that into perspective, Dallas has 5 towers over 700 feet. Houston has 11 in that height bracket with another one under construction. If all those happen, that would put Texas in the top three along with New York and Illinois for 700+ footers, and we'd have nearly twice as many as #4 California.

The design changed. Previously, it was planned to be 613 feet with 42 floors. I wasn't so crazy about this new design they have for it at first, but I'm coming around to it the idea. I like the color and facade design. It's just the overall shape that bugs me.

There are a few already, but nothing that I would really call a skyscraper. The tallest so far is The Dorsey condo tower, but it's only 170 feet. There are taller buildings planned farther out than that. So far, the Domain in North Central Austin is turning into our 2nd downtown with a handful of 200 foot buildings built and under construction. There's also a 300 foot office tower under construction up there. And there's at least one office building planned that could be a few feet shy of 400 feet there. Then there is the 3443/Austin Viie office park in East Austin that WWMI mentioned that could have three 400 footers, plus two 200 footers and a handful of other low highrises. Then there is the Statesman newspaper site just south of downtown across the river. That redevelopment has shown several renderings with a handful of towers. One of them could be north of 500 feet. And there already a handful of high rises south of the river now. The tallest now is a 200 foot condo, and there's another 200 foot office tower being built nearby.

I did a Google Earth rough model of Austin projects and included the 3443 Tech campus. You can see them on page 5 of this thread:

Statesman redevelopment thread - there are renderings on page 13 and a model on page 16.

Wow! The fact that Austin will soon have more 700+ footer buildings than Dallas and could eventually surpass Houston is mind boggling.

Not that it matters much, but we're back at 1,022 feet for 98 Red River for now. Here's a side by side of the two best renderings:

Am I the only one who doesn't like the look of it? If Austin is going to get a supertall, it needs to be very sleek. That is too bulky on the bottom and the top design is just not good.

Not that it probably matters, but it is bulky on the bottom because the podium is really two buildings that are connected a couple floors up. The south building is a hotel. The split in the podium is the hotel entrance.

I'd love a building with Asian skyscrapers as inspiration. That'd look cool!

It’s pretty hideous in my opinion. It looks all disjointed. Needs to be sleek like the Austonian or something.
