It's also a case of just too many other projects on the go. While a new tallest is always exciting projects like Telus Sky and the evolution if east village and Beltline are where the excitement is at

Surreal: Looks like Stanteck is going to steal some of the "limelight" of Brookfield.... It's 5 meters taller!

that is rumour...started by Edm group. NOTHING CONFIRMED
With oil going down toilet, won't be surprised if it is scaled back.

I think probably because the design is nothing special (ie. a slightly more interesting Bay Adelaide Centre), and also that there are several much more interesting projects underway, including the Manulife tower by SOM and Telus Sky by Bjkarke Ingels, as well as the awesome new Central Library by Snohetta. Even some of the new residential towers underway or planned in East Village and Beltline are looking really good. When The Bow was under construction, there were many other skyscrapers underway in Calgary but none, other than The Bow, really pushed the envelope in terms of design.

Simply a case of being the tallest building underway right now but by no means the best.

Another thing that made The Bow noteworthy was that the previous tallest outside TO, Suncor Tower, held that title for over 25 years.

I'm in wait and see mode on that one. If it does end up being taller it won't matter much anyway because nothing will steal the limelight from Telus Sky, which blows away both BP and Stantech.

I'd have to agree there. Although, I will grant that if it comes to pass, having the new "tallest in the West" will be a big feather in Edmonton's cap.

To be at grade by end of January is going to be pushing it, as they still have 5 levels of parkade to go up on the seventh Ave side of the project according to the picture Surrealplaces posted showing the scaffold staircase.

Agreed. The tower footprint has only 3 levels to go at its lowest point (outlined by large columns.)
