Is that roof bar at House of Roosevelt?

Feel free to contact me if you have time. There's a good chance I'll be around when you come.

That rooftop bar is called TOPS, and it's part of the Banyan Tree Hotel and Spa in the Hongkou District.

Autumn here is a very strange season. Shanghai, for whatever reason, doesn't do midrange temps much. Summer starts in June and goes from 15c one week to 26c the next. It's the opposite in the fall; October is quite warm, and then come mid-November, the temperature drops like a stone. This year we've had nice midrange temps for the whole month of November. It's unusual, but super nice.

Good morning, everyone.

One of the best attributes of my apartment is the fantastic view. How we managed to get in to the only residential building for a solid 20 blocks along central Huaihai Rd., and get it for the price we pay will always remain a mystery to me. After a few years of noisy, over-priced apartments, I feel like we got a bit of a break on this one.

Morning north view.
Being on the 19th floor, it's very rare to be able to get these kinds of views. Usually, you'd need to be on the mid 20s or higher. We can thank the French Concession, and it's plethora a century old low/mid-rises for that.

A short walk away from my place, you can get to one of central Shanghai's major expressway interchanges. It's a cool place for photography.

Impressive, as usual! Thanks for your continuous updates, giallo!

By the way, the fantastic views you enjoy everyday from your apartment are amazing. You are a lucky man living there.

Congrats and greetings from Madrid, Spain.

This thread is your way of pouring salt into my open wound that is missing my time in Shanghai.

Wow. This thread is blowing me away. What a city!

These interchanges look great. With planters up top and greenery at the bottom. Is this normal or are these "showcase" highways that look nicer than normal?

What's up with the dude taking pics of the chicks? He has scratches all over his legs and is wearing something over his face. Shanghai Tower is making Jin Mao look like a midrise at this point.

I think all the expressways through central Shanghai have planters on the side. Some will have medians with miles of gardens underneath. It's a nice feature.

He's a member of a photo group I belong to on Wechat*. I've shot with him a couple of time, and yeah, the scratches on the legs, rapid weight loss, bad teeth/gums and an overall jittery demeanour has lead me to believe that he's probably doing something he shouldn't. I have no idea why he was wearing a mask for part of the shoot. We had snuck up an office building, so maybe he was paranoid, and used it to hide his appearance.

*Wechat is a Chinese app that's like a combination of Instagram, Facebook and Twitter. It's legitimately awesome, and the first real piece of original tech out of China that is better than its competitors.

Very interesting Giallo. I'm jealous that you get to roam around this metropolis taking photos and hanging out with hot chicks like on the rooftop j/k. The other one with her back to you looks nice as well. I digress I remember you stating in a thread a month ago or so about "Asia can get in to your blood" or something to that affect and its hard to leave. Obviously you live in Shanghai and have a sweet job that is a passion of yours. Maybe if you were teaching english or some other shit job you wouldn't be liking life there so much.

Can you explain for us, what you mean by getting hooked in by the pull of an Asian megacity. Is it the fascinating people both natives and expats, even like this strange tweeker guy from Wechat that adds to the allure? The pure energy of the city. When I lived in Busan for a year for example I loved just being different, walking on to the subway and being the only "white guy/non korean" was just kind of fun. I have been wanting to get your thoughts on this. Thanks.

A lot of the attraction has to do with unfamiliarity; the chance of seeing something new, meeting someone new, eating something new, it all becomes this never-ending adventure. People seem genuinely more interested in each other here because we all come from somewhere else. There's always so much to learn from each other. It's not unusual to have friends from the "elite" or a struggling artist, a DJ or a importer/exporter. Shanghai, for now at least, keeps everyone on the same level (strictly talking about foreigners here). It makes the city so much fun.

I am planning on the inevitable move back home though, and it scares me to death. I'm so worried I'll be bored to tears back in Canada.
