A rumor that the habs are trying to dump Gorges so they can sign Boyle today...

Quote:

Habs sign Malhotra for a year.

Can any Canucks fans tell me what type of a player he is? I know he's not an offensive powerhouse, but rarely have I seen him play...

From what I've seen he's a defensively reliable third/fourth line grinder who can chip in offensively and can hold his own in a fight. Always liked his intensity as well.

And apparently he's really good at faceoffs.

Which is great news as we're pretty bad at faceoffs.

Gorges traded to Buff for 2016 second. Good salary dump plus we get a good pick. Boyle coming to Montreal?

Oilers pretty active... Benny boy will be interesting and mark on the D should help.

I still want a 4th line grinder and a centre.

Malholtra was a face off master before his eye injury

Wow, Montreal is really shaking things up. Briere, Gorges, Vanek, Parros, Murray and Gionta are now gone. I'm sorry to see Gorges go. At least Weaver got resigned like I wanted. Now if they can just re-sign Subban.

Don't worry, Subban's a done deal. He's the future of the team, and everyone knows it.

I was a bit skeptical of the Gilbert signing but it makes sense.

Really like what Bergevin is doing to the team.

-From the 3 "rental" players last season, Weise and Weaver have re-signed with us and Bergevin confirmed we didn't make Vanek an offer (surprise, surprise he signed in Minnesota). So in fact, 2/3 rentals become regulars.
-We cleared some cap space... Weaver can do the same things as Gorges for cheaper (and even provided a bit more offence last season).
-Only Subban and Weaver were right D. By signing Gilbert, a righty, Emelin can go back to his natural position.
-Habs were 17th in the NHL in the faceoffs so we replace our 4th center with a faceoff specialist.
-Our captain is now in Buffalo but we automatically add size by replacing him.

Also bye bye Bouillon.

Should be interesting to see who the next captain is... Markov was offered the C after Koivu left but he declined (he is not very comfortable with media) so it's probably not him. Maybe Plekanec.

Ottawa Senators' captain Jason Spezza traded to the Dallas Stars for:
-Alex Chiasson
-Alex Guptill
-Nicholas Paul
-Second Round Pick

GM says he'll have "great team for upcoming season" but I'm starting to fear otherwise.. I feel like we lost a lost of good players but haven't picked up any gold

Chiasson's a good rookie. The rest, don't know...

Claude Giroux was arrested in Ottawa yesterday for “repeatedly grabbing the buttocks of a male police officer.”

Canucks sign Vrbata to 2 year $10m deal. We desperately need his power play skills, shoot out prowess, and overall scoring touch. We lost our highest scoring forward and defensemen and we were 27th in scoring with these two lost guys so we need so much help scoring. Otherwise we'll be right there for McDavid.

Vancouver is doing an interesting experiment. It's been a long, long time since a team has tried to build so much, so fast, from free agency.

Given that the modern thinking is "you don't win from free agency, you do it from drafts/trades" - it'll be interesting to see where this goes. If it fails miserably, as a Flames' fan I get to laugh. If it succeeds, it will shake up the NHL for years to come, as teams see yet another different model of success.

I think it's the fact that Francesco Aquilini wants his money and won't let Linden do a full-scale rebuild. NHL is a business, they want the money.

Apparently Gretzky is trying to help bring the NHL to Seattle. I think it's a great idea, especially to help balance out the 2 conferences. Although I am curious to know if would end up being an expansion or relocation franchise. If it is expansion, I'm sure it would mean 2 expansion teams, which raises another question: Where would the 2nd franchise land?
