Yea its quite a transformation. If I recall, crane spotters puts it at something over 300 plus towers u/c, proposed, or in demo that are of a variety of functions (Condo, office, rentals, etc). This being within the S. Florida region. Even in Sunny Isles, the 17th tower proposal occurred yesterday. Most likely another 600 footer or so.

Project: Latin American Art Museum

Quote:
Art collector Gary Nader's Latin American Art Museum that Curbed spotted mysteriously announced on an obscure Latin American news website Tuesday is seriously legit, according to an article in the Miami Herald today. Mr. Nader will be displaying the plans, and a model, along with selections from his 600-piece private collection, which he plans to display at the museum, at his gallery in Wynwood during Art Basel.

Nader hasn't picked a site yet, but he's currently considering three potential sites on Biscayne Boulevard. That means (hallelujah!) it's probably not going on Parcel B. The very cool looking 90,000 square foot museum, which was designed by architect Fernando Romero, will cost around $50 million, and will be financed by the construction of a $300 million, 300 unit luxury condominium tower on the same property, where units will range in price from $2 to $20 million. A "sculpture park" will be out front. Nader hopes to have the museum open by 2016.

Midtown 5 Construction To Begin By Year End After Developer Gets $80M Financing

Quote:
It’s a done deal: Midtown 5 will begin construction by the end of the year.

Magellan Development Group obtained an $80 million construction loan last week to build the 400-unit rental project. Construction financing was arranged by Mike Tepedino, Elliott Throne, Scott Wadler, and Jennifer Keller of HFF.

The 24-story project will also add 22,000 square feet of ground-floor retail space to the Midtown Miami neighborhood.

Residents of the luxury Midtown 5 building will enjoy over 52,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor amenity space, including a steam room, pool deck and fitness center.

Revealed: Arquitectonica’s New Design For The Miami Beach Convention Center, Replacing Koolhaas

PDF: https://www.scribd.com/doc/244013656/mbccdrb

PDF #2: https://www.scribd.com/doc/244013416/mbccarq

Quote:
Here it is, publicly revealed for the first time: Arquitectonica and Fentress Architects plan for the Miami Beach Convention Center, which is being rushed to begin construction before the end of next year.

It replaces a previous design by master architect Rem Koolhaas, which was scrapped following the election of Philip Levine as mayor. Koolhaas had won out in a design competition that also included Bjarke Ingels and Zaha Hadid.

News of Arquitectonica’s selection as exterior architect of the Miami Beach Convention Center was first reported by exMiami in August.

Although Arquitectonica’s design is underwhelming compared to previous proposals, Miami Beach’s officials seem anxious to start work and are unlikely to further delay renovations to the aging center.

Landscape design and plans for a park on what is currently a surface parking lot are being handled by Dutch landscape architect West 8, who also designed the Soundscape park in front of the New World Symphony.

Miami Building Boom Spreads Into Downtown’s Tent City

http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2014-1...tent-city.html

Quote:
A building boom that transformed Miami into a destination for the global elite left out the city core, better known for its empty lots filled at night with tents for the homeless. Now the area awaits a $2 billion face lift.

Worldcenter, a 27-acre (11-hectare) development that languished for almost a decade, won city approval last month and is slated to break ground next year near Miami’s business district. The project will include almost 1,000 luxury condominiums and apartments, a Marriott Marquis hotel with convention space, and stores such as Macy’s and Bloomingdale’s.

Developers CIM Group, Falcone Group and Centurion Partners are seeking to breathe life into a neighborhood often referred to as the “hole in the doughnut,” an area of blight and weedy lots surrounded by luxury properties that are attracting South American, Euro...

Faena District To Add New 16-Story Luxury Condo Tower Next To Versailles Hotel

Quote:
A plan to incorporate the historic Versailles Hotel into the Faena District while adding a new condo tower has been revealed.

The Versailles Hotel would be converted into an exclusive condo building, and a new 16-story luxury tower would rise next door, if Miami Beach officials approve.

Plans calls for the restoration of the original 1940 Versailles tower, which originally included 141 hotel rooms and will be reduced to just 22 residential units. A 1955 addition that added another 132 rooms would be completely demolished, and replaced with a 45-unit condo tower. Both the original 1940 tower and the subsequent addition in 1955 were designed by Chicago architect Roy F. France.

The new condo building is being designed by Brandon Haw of Leitersdorf Haw Architecture, who also designed the neighboring Faena House while he was employed at Foster + Partners. Raymond Jungles is handling landscape architecture, and Studio Sofield is tasked with interior design. Miami’s NBWW & Associates is the architect of record.

Do you know where they are? On what street is that? I can see the old hotel on the Google Earth. See if I can remember this.

Amazing, those curvacious stunners are so Miami. Brings back some pf the glamour of the earlier eras. Miami needs more and more curved buildings, it just says 20's. Soon we'll have to say, 1920's, but yeah, that's what i mean.
